Essence!

Finally, Yaksa asked four questions of great significance to Maharāj Yudhisthira & he replied as follows

Q: Who is truly happy?

A: One who cooks for himself, who is not a debtor and does not have to leave home to earn his livelihood is actually happy

Q: What is the most wonderful thing?

A: The most amazing thing is that even though, every day, one sees that countless living beings are dying, he still thinks and acts as if he will remain here in this material world forever

Ahany ahani bhutāni gacchantiha yamālayam

Sesāh sthāvaram ichhanti kim āscaryam atah param

Q: What is the real path to follow in life?

A: Dry arguments are inconclusive. A great personality whose opinion doesn’t differ from others is not considered a great sage. Simply by studying the Vedas, which are variegated, one can’t come to the right path by which religious principles are understood. The solid truth of religious principles is hidden in the heart of an unadulterated, self-realized person. Consequently, as the sāstrās confirm, one should accept whatever progressive path the Mahājanās advocate (There are 12 Mahajanas – Brahmā, Nārada, Shiva, The four Kumaras, Kapildeva, Svayambhu Manu, Prahlāda, Janaka, Bhisma, Bali, Sukdeva Goswami & Yamarāj)

Tarko pratisthah srutayo vibhinnā nāsāv rsir yasya matam na bhinnam

Dharmasya tattvam nihitam guhāyām Mahajano yena gatah sa panthāh

Q: What is the real situation of this material world?

A: This material world, which is full of ignorance, can be compared to a frying pan. The Sun is like the fire and the days &nights are the fuel. The passing seasons are the stirring spoon & time is the cook, which fries all living creatures in that pan. These are facts on what is happening in this miserable material world

Tarka (Arguments), cannot lead us to the Absolute Truth. One can be a very good logician but another logician can defeat him. New philosopher, new logician, new thinker means he defeats his previous thinkers, logicians, and philosophers, and becomes prominent. That is the materialistic way of gaining name, fame and popularity

Next, we can take scriptures and take its authority to understand the Absolute truth. But there are so many scriptures with differences. Hence just following scriptures, one may not be able to reach the Absolute goal

And if we consult great thinkers & philosophers, they also have different opinion. Hence very difficult to reach the Absolute

The only way recommended in Vedic scriptures to know the Absolute Truth is: Mahājano yena gataḥ sa panthāḥ

Mahajan is a personality who is a pure devotee of the Lord

Mahātmānas tu māṁ pārtha daivīṁ prakṛtim āśritāḥ

bhajanty ananya-manaso  jñātvā bhūtādim avyayam

O son of Pṛthā, those who are not deluded, the great souls, are under the protection of the divine nature. They are fully engaged in devotional service because they know Me as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, original & inexhaustible

Following the Path of Mahātma is our only refuge to know the Absolute truth.
