Ultimate Protector!

As Jayadratha showed his evil intention to Draupadi and criticized Pāndavās, she stepped back & chastised him saying: Are you not ashamed to criticize warriors who never waver, even when confronted by hordes of Yaksas & Rāksasas? Those who are wise never speak ill of learned persons who perform austerities, whether they live in prosperity or in wilderness. I think there is no one who can grab you by hand & save you from falling into pit that has opened up beneath your feet now

Out of childishness you’re kicking awake a lion so that that you can pluck hair from his face. You wretch! if you lay your sinful hands upon me, it will result in your destruction. Jayadratha said: I’m far superior than Pāndavās & so I’m not at all afraid of your words. Come with me my lovely one! Give up your false pretension of righteousness

Draupadi declared: With Krsna & Arjuna as my protectors, I have no fear of even Indra & all demigods, what to speak of a lowly human being like you. As she understood that Jayadratha was about to grab her, she shouted: You fool, don’t pollute me with your repulsive touch. She called out for sage Dhaumya with great alarm, but Jayadratha quickly grabbed her upper garment. She responded by pushing him back & he stumbled to fall on floor

Enraged, he quickly got up and this time forcefully seized Draupadi & dragged her towards his chariot. Dhaumya then appeared. As Draupadi offered him obeisances as best she could, Dhaumya warned Jayadratha: Why don’t you observe Kshatriya etiquette of vanishing your foes before carrying away this woman? Rest assured that you’ll soon reap fruits of this despicable act by meeting destruction at hands of Pāndavās. Jayadratha took Draupadi on his chariot & departed while Dhaumya followed him

Meanwhile, after having separated while hunting, Pāndavās once again assembled. Yudhisthira could see that birds & animals in distance were agitated by some unknown cause. That indicated that intruders must have entered forest & so he said: I think we better return to our cottage at once. As they rushed back, they saw a jackal howling ominously on their left side. Yudhisthira said: this means Kurus have once again come to attack us

As they arrived, Pāndavās found a maidservant Dhātreyikā weeping. She informed that Draupadi has been forcibly carried away by Jayadratha. Hurry, because he could not have gone very far. Take up your weapons & proceed at once

Pāndavās set out & breathing heavily with anger twanged bows menacingly. Soon they spotted dust cloud raised by Jayadratha’s army. As they came closer, they say Dhaumya in midst of infantry soldiers. After causing the priest to turn back, they swooped down on Jayadratha like hawks. When they saw Draupadi on his chariot, their anger blazed up like fire

We should be very careful in our dealing with righteous people who are devotees of the Supreme Lord. Troubling them means acting against the Supreme. It then becomes Krsna’s responsibility to save them

ye tu sarvāṇi karmāṇi mayi sannyasya mat-parāḥ
ananyenaiva yogena māṁ dhyāyanta upāsate

teṣām ahaṁ samuddhartā mṛtyu-saṁsāra-sāgarāt
bhavāmi na cirāt pārtha mayy āveśita-cetasām

But those who worship Me, giving up all their activities unto Me and being devoted to Me without deviation, engaged in devotional service and always meditating upon Me, having fixed their minds upon Me, O son of Pṛthā – for them I am the swift deliverer from the ocean of birth and death
