Real benefit!
Apart from Bhima, none of the other Pāndavās spoke unpleasantly to messenger sent by Duhsāsana to invite them for Vaishnav-Yajna, who returned & related to Duryodhana all that had been said
Kings from all over world began pouring into Hastināpur. When sacrifice reached its successful conclusion, Duryodhana gave immense charity to Brāhmanās & costly gifts to kings who attended. He joined a procession along with his brothers, Karna & Sakuni. Many citizens praised but others were not in favor of him & remarked: This sacrifice is not equal to even 16th part of Rājsuya sacrifice performed by Maharāja Yudhisthira
Duryodhana & his aides clearly heard these comments. Karna tried to reassure him saying: Don’t worry! After we kill Pāndavās in battle, you’ll be able to perform Rājsuya yajna. I’ve already vowed to kill Arjun & now I promise that until that time comes, I’ll not allow anyone to was my feet, will never eat things born out of water & whosoever asks charity from me will receive whatever he requests
In response to Karna’s vow, Dhārtarāshtrās loudly cheered due to their implicit faith in him, & felt as if Pāndavās were already defeated
Meanwhile after receiving Duryodhana’s invitation, Pāndavās became bit anxious. When they heard about Karna’s vow from spies & thought about he being born with impenetrable armor, they lost remaining peace of mind. Yudhisthira especially became filled with horrible fear & began thinking about moving away from Dvaitavana
Soon after Pāndavās departed to Kāmyaka forest. Yudhisthira lamented considering himself sole cause of their suffering & was haunted by remembrances of fateful gambling match that forced him & his brothers into exile
One day Vyāsdev came to visit Pāndavās. After being honored & comfortably seated, he said to his grandsons with tears in his eyes, feeling great compassion for them: You should know that happiness & distress are concomitant factors in this material world. Because of this, a wise person expects both conditions & not simply happiness. You’ve performed great austerities in forest & so you should be confident that these penances have purified your existence & will lead you to future happiness
One who lives virtuously throughout his entire life will certainly be born with a righteous inclination in a prosperous family, in his next life
Krsna says:
prāpya puṇya-kṛtāṁ lokān uṣitvā śāśvatīḥ samāḥ
śucīnāṁ śrīmatāṁ gehe yoga-bhraṣṭo ’bhijāyate
The unsuccessful yogī, after many, many years of enjoyment on planets of the pious living entities, is born into a family of righteous people, or into a family of rich aristocracy
There is no loss when we tread path of Krsna consciousness. If for any reason we fall, we will start from the end point before the fall & proceed further. This is opposite to the material successes, which are all lost as we leave this body & when we take up next body, we have to start again from scratch
Where lies our benefit? Thoughts?
