Humility Vs Humiliation!

Karna on his mission of “World Conquest” first attacked Drupada’s city & managed to defeat the aged monarch, making him pay a large tribute. After defeating innumerable kings in North & East, he fought with Rukmi in south. A dreadful battle took place, but after some time, Rukmi ceased fighting & exclaimed: O Karna! I’m pleased to witness your great prowess & had only opposed you due to my duty as a Kshatriya. I award you with large tribute & admit subordination to Duryodhana

Finally after conquering all the rulers of earth, Karna made triumphant return to Hastināpur, where sons of Dhritrāshtra royally received him. After hearing Karna’s exploits, Duryodhana ecstatically said: I’m now confident of my ability to defeat Pāndavās. Karna, you’re my sole refuge & have given me great honor, which I never received from Bhisma, Drona or Krpa

Duryodhana took Karna to where Dhritrāshtra & Gāndhari were seated. Just like a son Karna bent down & touched their feet & blind king affectionately embraced him. Later on, in private Duryodhana confided to Karna: Ever since Yudhisthira’s Rājsuya sacrifice, I have had a burning desire to do same. Pls help me so that I can fulfill my long cherished aspiration

Karna said: All rulers of earth have already been subdued by me. Why not summon Brāhmanās so that preparations for Rājsuya sacrifice can begin without delay?

With eagerness, Duryodhana called for his head priest & explained his intention. Brāhmanā replied: As long a Yudhisthira & your father are alive, it will not be possible for you or anyone else in your family to perform Rājsuya sacrifice. But there is another similar sacrifice called Vaisnava-yajna you can perform. First, have a golden plow made from tribute presented to you by Karna & then use it to construct sacrificial arena

Duryodhana agreed to perform Yajna. All preparation was done & swift messengers were sent to invite great rulers & Brāhmanās of earth. Malicious minded Duhsāsana took opportunity to send one of messengers to Dvaitvana to invite Pāndavās

When Yudhisthira received the invitation, he said to messenger: I wish Duryodhana all success, however I regret that I shall not be able to attend Yajna because the period of my vow to live in forest has not come to an end

However, Bhima gave the messenger his reply: O Duryodhana! you can rest be assured that after the end of 13th year, we will pour libations of our wrath into the sacrificial fire of WAR!

Humility & humiliation are very different things. While one is forced, other is voluntary. Humility is a virtue chosen by one keeping in mind pursuance of higher purpose. While humiliation is forcing others by externals to deprive them their due. It boosts false ego of self & hurts the ego of others resulting in huge enmity

In our daily lives, we need to be genuinely humble understanding its purpose & never humiliate others. Big businesses are affected by the false ego and resultant actions
