Inner Weakness!
King Yudhisthira said to sage Mārkandeya: I’m very curious to hear more about forthcoming age of Kali. It is very hard for us to imagine that human society will become so degraded
Sage said: In Kali-Yuga people will deceive others under guise of virtue. Those who manage to gain false reputation as learned men will conceal real truth from innocent public. Being dedicated to lust, anger & greed, men will create so much enmity towards each other & ultimately, they’ll threaten to destroy whole world. Cows will gradually become extinct & Brāhmanās will speak disrespectfully about Vedas. Fathers & sons will take away each other’s property & rulers of nations will plunder citizen’s wealth by every means within their power
Society will gradually come to consist of only one class, which is much lower than Sudrās. Masses of people will give up worship of God. Instead of worshipping the Supreme Personality of Godhead Krsna, they’ll worship bones & other relics deposited in ancient ruins. Finally, men will become so cruel & wicked that they’ll kill one another over a slight provocation
At this time incarnation of Godhead, Lord Kalki will appear in Brāhmanā family in the village Sambhala & He’ll destroy these despicable persons. The age of Kali will thus come to an end, Then, surrounded by other brāhmanās, Lord Kalki will inaugurate the next Satya-Yuga
Sage said: Dear King! Do not doubt what I’ve told you for I’ve repeatedly witnessed these things
Yudhisthira said: Pls give me some advice about the proper behavior of King so that I may always perform my duties properly
Sage said: You should always be merciful towards all living creatures, making sure that you neglect no one. Always be truthful in your speech & conduct yourself in a very humble & exemplary manner. If you can renounce false pride & keep your passions under control, you’ll be able to execute your duties very nicely
In addition, I wish to give you a most important piece of advice that can never be over-emphasized. Never insult a Brāhmanā by thought, word or deed, because his anger can destroy the entire universe
Yudhisthira promised: I would never be deterred by lust, greed, pride or fear & will certainly act as you’ve directed
A person in managerial position, responsible for welfare of others must always be free from the vices: lust, anger, greed, illusion, pride & envy. These anarthas (inner weaknesses) does not make but breaks the team. Anarthas create Me Vs Them rather than We
asau mayā hataḥ śatrur haniṣye cāparān api
īśvaro ’ham ahaṁ bhogī siddho ’haṁ balavān sukhī
Demoniac person thinks: He is my enemy, and I have killed him, and my other enemies will also be killed. I am the lord of everything. I am the enjoyer. I am perfect, powerful & happy
We need to focus on dharma, on internalizing the spiritual wisdom that enables us to choose the right course of action & get rid of anarthas
