Destiny!
Draupadi gave very good instructions to Satyabhāma & she greatly appreciated them. At last Sri Krsna took permission to depart from Pāndavās & Brāhmanās headed by sage Mārkandeya. He then set out for Dvārka
Pāndavās returned to Dvaitvana & chose a secluded place to live, far away from human habitation and much of their time was spent roaming in the forest. Many sages came to visit Pāndavās & all of them were very respectfully received and worshipped. One day a Brāhmanā came and held discussions. He then departed for Hastināpur
The Brāhmanā was very expert in speaking & when he entered Dhritrāshtra’s court, the old king received him with great respect. After having him seated comfortably, King inquired about how Pāndavās were passing their days. In reply Brāhmanā explained in very pitiful words how they had become exceedingly emaciated due to being exposed to the elements & how along with Draupadi, they slept upon bare ground
When Dhritrāshtra heard the vivid portrayal of Pāndavās plight, he became very sorry at heart. Indeed, while considering how his poor nephews’ sufferings were the result of his own fault, he became merged into an ocean of lamentation. He imagined their hardships and concluded that Bhimā’s wrath must be swelling more & more as time passes
Dhritrāshtra marveled: Oh! How is it possible that my son & Sakuni are oblivious to the impending doom that awaits them as the result of their sinful deeds?
At one moment, He harshly reproached himself for the affection he cherished for his wicked son, knowing it to be the cause for his having sanctioned Duryodhana’s evil plans. The next moment however, Dhritrāshtra became callous thinking: Never mind! All of this is taking place by the will of Destiny. The wind will always blow & the Sun will forever shine, irrespective of our desires or endeavors. Similarly, the events that are taking place are out of my hands
But, whichever way Dhritrāshtra considered things, he knew that the result would be the same-the Pāndavās would take revenge after the completion of their period of exile. He reasoned: If the Pāndavās were not going to fight for their kingdom, then why did Arjun come back after ascending to heaven in his mortal body?
The war is sure to happen & my family would be doomed
Putting all blame on destiny for our shortcomings is a bad idea. Destiny is the sum total of our past actions, but who stops us to take corrective future action? Our actions should be directed in such a way as to evolve our consciousness & move progressively. They should not derail our consciousness to get stuck in thoughts of resentment, self-pity & negativity
Maturity begins with realizing reality. Such pragmatic acceptance becomes easier when we internalize a spiritual worldview and come out of our bodily consciousness
