Splendor!

Residing at abode of Nara & Nārayana Rsis, Pāndavās expected to see Arjun any time. There were many heavenly lakes filled with lotus flowers & lilies. The branches of trees were bent to ground due to weight of their fruits. The celestial Gangā with its cool crystal-clear water flowed nearby & it looked incredibly delightful

On 6th day of their stay, a wind blowing from northeast carried an effulgent 1000-petal lotus flower of heavenly fragrance & dropped it near to where Draupadi was seated. With great delight she picked the lotus & bringing it to Bhima, said: I’ll give this to Yudhisthira & I wish you bring me many more of these so that I can take them back to decorate our cottage at Kāmyakvana

As Draupadi left, Bhima eagerly set out hoping to please his dear wife. He fearlessly ascended Gandhmādana mountain & appeared like a maddened elephant going thro’ forest. As Bhima kept his sights on flowering peaks, his fatigue became mitigated by heavenly fragrance carried by gentle breeze. He rushed impetuously pushing aside bushes & creepers. The deer simply gazed at him as they were unacquainted with fear

Eager to fulfill Draupadi’s desire & to return as soon as possible, Bhima knocked down many trees & crushed wild animals that stood on his path. Herds of wild elephants fled in fear & when Bhima roared loudly, the lions came out of their dens. Along with some elephants, these lions rushed at Bhima but at heart they felt fearful of him. With few slaps he killed some & animal cries mixed with his roars disturbed all

Killing numerous elephants & lions, Bhima continued knocking down trees that stood in his way. When he saw aquatic birds flying upwards with wet wings, Bhima headed in that direction. He soon came to a large lake, filled with lotus flowers & encircled by golden banana trees. Entering water, he played for some time & blew his conch shell as loud as he could. When that sound mixed with his loud shouts and slapping of arms, it resounded thro’ heavens. Lions roared in response & elephants cried out in fear

Bhima continued to ascend the mountain in search of lotus flowers that Draupadi wanted. His haughtiness & ego would soon be crushed by Sri Hanuman, who came & lay down on the path Bhima was about to cross to go ahead

One should be very careful in not causing trouble to others on account of pursuing own goals. Our desires to achieve something at any cost gets us into big troubles, as we are lured into an addictive indulgence or a toxic behavior to cause inconvenience and even grave distress to others

We can always desire to achieve something but should be careful about if it is only on a material level, achieving which does not solve any higher purpose but only one’s sense gratification. Lasting happiness is not in material but spiritual as we all are spirit souls & not the material body. Gita explains that everything that triggers our desires manifests a spark of Krishna’s splendor

yad yad vibhūtimat sattvaṁ śrīmad ūrjitam eva vā

tat tad evāvagaccha tvaṁ mama tejo-’ṁśa-sambhavam

Know that all opulent, beautiful and glorious creations spring from but a spark of My splendor
