Self Vs Cause!
As Kuvera finished speaking, Bhima came forward & bowed to him & Lord of wealth became very pleased. He assured Pāndavās that Arjun will return very soon
Pāndavās continued residing at Arstisena’s ashram & while anxiously waiting for Arjun’s return, they passed their time either roaming in forest or in company of Brāhmanās, reciting Vedas or performing religious duties. One day as they were sitting together absorbed in thoughts of Arjun, Indra’s chariot suddenly appeared overhead illuminating all directions
Arjun was seated with Matāli & when Pāndavās saw him decorated with flower garlands & golden ornaments, their joy knew no bounds. The celestial chariot alighted & Arjun first went & offered his obeisance to sage Dhaumya, then to King Yudhisthira and Bhima. Nakula & Sahadev bowed before their elder brother. Arjun went to console Draupadi with sweet words
Arjun presented Draupadi with precious jewels he had received from Indra. Everyone sat down around Arjun eager to hear about his experiences & he narrated incidents of his heavenly sojourn: After leaving Kāmyaka forest, I went to Bhrgu muni’s abode & there a brāhmanā advised me to perform austerities if I hoped to see Indra. With this purpose I travelled to Himalayās
After performing severe austerities for 6 months, I happened to get into an argument with a fierce Kirāta over a wild boar we had both pierced with our arrows. Wo got into a fight which went for days & I found that I could not defeat my enemy despite my best efforts. I released Brahmāstra but Kirāta was able to neutralize that supreme weapon. I got terrified & then he revealed himself to be Lord Sivā
He was pleased by my fighting & gave me his personal weapon, the Pasupātastra, which can be used only as a last resort when all other weapons have failed. Next I met the same Brāhmanā & he was very happy hearing about my meeting with Lord Sivā & assured me that I’ll meet Indra soon
After some time heavenly breezes began to blow, Vedic hymns were chanted in glorification of Indra & soon he came with Sachi & other celestials. The Lokpalās came too & gave their favorite weapons. Soon after in Indra’s chariot driven by Matāli, I went to Amrāvati. Matāli remarked that my body didn’t jerk as he started the chariot. Even Indra is slightly shaken when this chariot begins to move & thus, I can guess that your prowess exceeds that of Indra
The world around us is huge & acknowledging its vastness brings humility of being insignificant little. But feelings of insignificance may have a negative effect if they lead to irresponsibility. We need to align ourselves to some purpose bigger than us & then we & our efforts will have bigger meaning. We are all fragmental parts of Supreme Lord & should work for his auspicious cause
We are all instruments of wisdom & compassion of the Divine & significant things can be done through insignificant us. The fact that we exist means that our existence has some purpose
