Suffering!

 

The hunter after saving Damyanti from clutches of serpent’s coils, asked her how she is in such a miserable condition. As beautiful Damyanti narrated her story, listening to her sweet voice, the hunter became overwhelmed with lust & began to woo the princess with mild appealing words. But as soon as chaste & virtuous Damyanti understood hunter’s intention, she blazed forth with anger. The wicked hunter tried to seize princess by force but was cursed to fall down dead at once & he lay dead

 

Damyanti then wandered in the fearful forest & came across rivers & lakes. She saw beastly animals, fearful snakes but wasn’t terrified, but was distressed due to separation from her beloved husband. Time & again she lamented calling out Nala & remembering his solemn vows of never leaving her in any condition. She asked tigers, mountains, plants etc if Nala is seen by them & bewailing her cruel destiny, proceeded towards north

 

After 3 days & nights, she came to wonderful scenic grove that served as residence of great saintly persons. She then saw foremost sages such as Bhrgu, Vasistha & Atri engaged in severe austerities, seeking pathway to liberation. Seeing them enlivened Damyanti & her anguish subsided for time being. She offered obeisance to them & the sages warmly welcomed her & asked about the reason to come there & what they can do for her

 

For the sake of politeness Damyanti first replied: You’re the best of Brahmanas. I hope all is well with you & your execution of austerities for the purpose of salvation. Are all residents of your hermitage well & peaceful including the birds & animals that have taken shelter here?

 

The sages said: As we have taken shelter of the Lotus Feet of the Supreme Lord, the Absolute truth, Lord Vishnu, there is no possibility of any misfortune overtaking us. Please tell us who you are & what you seek? Beholding your splendorous form, we’ve become highly delighted & amazed. Are you presiding deity of forest or of mountain or river? Are you a celestial goddess? Pls take heart & don’t succumb to grief

 

Damyanti said: I’m not a goddess but a mere human being. She then narrated her misfortune about how King Nala was challenged to gamble with dice & was deprived of his wealth & kingdom. She is separated by her husband & is searching for him everywhere

 

The sages said: By the strength of our ascetic prowess, we’re able to see that happiness will once again be yours in near future. You’ll soon get back your husband, freed from all distress. You’ll see him rule his kingdom with all royal paraphernalia. The sages then suddenly disappeared from Damyanti’s sight along with hermitage & sacred fires. Seeing this miracle, she thought was it a dream? But she was now positive & looked forward to changing fortunes

 

When one takes shelter at the Lotus feet of the Supreme Lord, he is freed immediately from all miseries. Krsna says

mām upetya punar janma duḥkhālayam aśāśvatam
nāpnuvanti mahātmānaḥ saṁsiddhiṁ paramāṁ gatāḥ

 

After attaining Me, the great souls, who are yogīs in devotion, never return to this temporary world, which is full of miseries, because they have attained the highest perfection

 

Let’s surrender & be blissful

  Make or break!   When Salya agreed to drive Karna’s chariot only on condition that he must be allowed to speak freely whatever he likes, Duryodhana and Karna readily agreed & thus a contract was made. Grudge-The heaviest thing to hold! Asvattāma hurriedly yoked horses to his chariot & set out, as Krpa & Krtvarma anxiously followed him. He soon arrived at Pāndava camp & saw a gigantic being with enormous head with flames emanating from his eyes, nose, ear & mouth   Asvattāma fearlessly attacked that awesome being with his celestial weapons but failed in all his attempt.
