Recalibrate!

Damyanti asked her servant Kesini to go to stables & silently observe Bāhuka for his behavior and report. Kesini went, observed & said upon her return: Never I’ve seen or heard about anyone having such control over nature

When Bāhuka comes to a low passageway, he didn’t have to bend down, but doorway itself increased in height to let him go thro’. When he simply looks at pots, they're filled with water. When he holds a bunch of dry grass to sun, it immediately bursts to flame & during cooking even if he touches fire, he’s not slightly burnt. All his actions are so wonderful

Damyanti hearing this said-I’ve already recovered my long-lost husband. She became convinced that Bāhuka is Nala, despite differences in bodily features. With tears of joy, she told Kesini: Go one more time & without Bāhuka’s knowledge bring me some food he prepares

Kesini went & secretly took food that Bāhuka prepared. Damyanti had tasted what Nala cooked in past & after eating, she was convinced that the ugly charioteer was actually her husband. She then sent her 2 children along with Kesini to Bāhuka

As he saw young children, Bāhuka immediately recognized & got up to embrace them. Taking twins upon his lap, he began to weep. But realizing inadvertently he had betrayed himself, he put children aside & said to Kesini: These kids resemble my own & I couldn’t help but cry seeing them. Now go away & don’t come again else people will have wrong impression & blame us

Kesini returned to Damyanti & told how Bāhuka became excited seeing her 2 children. This served to increase desire to see her husband & Damyanti messaged her mother: I suspect that Bāhuka is in reality Nala. I’ve tested him in various ways & my only remaining doubt is his appearance. So, I want to meet him myself. Pls make arrangements for him to come to palace or I go to meet him

Queen mother hearing this, went to King Bhima & told all. He consented that Bāhuka could be brought to Damyanti’s room by summoning him on some pretext. As Bāhuka came & saw Damyanti, strong feelings overwhelmed him making him cry. It was emotional for Nala to see Damyanti still wearing single piece of reddish cloth that Nala had cut into 2 pieces

Damyanti then asked Bāhuka: Have you ever met a person who despite knowing principles of religion & etiquette, has gone away deserting his wife as she innocently slept in forest? Who except virtuous king Nala, could do such a thing to his poor, offense less wife? She then asked many questions with tears in eyes, trying to decipher why Nala deserted her

Relentless pursuit of our actions to get to the core of things, does bring success in the end. When we are determined to hold ourselves accountable for our efforts, it means that we are open to reforms, for not only accepting our mistakes, forgiving ourselves but also recalibrate to do right things. Thus, forgetting past actions, we don’t self-flagellate to weaken & wound us but have strength to act right
