Stablity!

As Arjun went along the avenues of Amrāvati, he was praised by hosts of Gandharvās, Apsarās, Sidhhas & sages. Matāli introduced Arjun to Sādhyās, Visvās, Maruts, Asvins, Adityās, Vasus, Rudras, & Brahmarsis, as well as great Rajrsis who resided there headed by Dilipa

Arjun met sage Nārada, Tumburu & Gandharvas Hāhā & HuHu. Offering respects to all these exalted personalities, he was at last brought to Indra, who was seated upon his royal throne over which was held a white umbrella. He was fanned by numerous perfumed Cāmarās

Arjun quickly bowed his head with great reverence at his father’s feet. Indra embraced him with great affection & holding his hand made him sit on his throne. He smelled his head & touching Arjun’s face gazed at him without satiation. All the while, Gandharvas offered praises while 1000’s of Apsarās (celestial nymphs) danced. Arghya & water was brought to wash his feet & then Arjun was led inside Indra’s palace

Arjun continued to reside at Indra’s palace for next 5 years & was surrounded by all sort of comfort & luxury imaginable. During this period, he received Indra’s favorite weapon, thunderbolt, as well as numerous other celestial weapons directly from his father’s hand. However, even though he resided in heaven & had all sorts of material facility, Arjun felt great pangs of separation from his brothers

One day after Arjun received all weapons & the knowledge about how to invoke them, Indra said-Now I want you to learn the arts of music & dancing from Gandharva Chitrasena. This was to learn about the music of heaven which is unknown to human beings. Chitrasena became friends to Arjun & taught him about instrumental music, vocals, & dancing

Arjun was restless at heart remembering about Sakuni had cheated his elder brother out of his kingdom. He also remembered Dushasana’s insults & longed for the time when he would avenge them

The purpose in life makes both pleasure & pain bearable. When we are focused on the higher purpose of our responsibilities, we do not get engrossed in the deviations which takes us away from our purposeful actions. When we are mentally & emotionally pegged to something stable, which does not allow us to go haywire, then remaining attentive to our goal is not difficult, else we end up distracted

There is no room for elation or lamentation if we are surrendered to the Lotus feet of the Supreme Lord as he guides us from within to take us thro' on our roller-coaster ride to be stable

Who is best bet other than the Lord for us, as he assures us

sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja

ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ

Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear
