Prayers


Vyāsdev arrived & said to Yudhisthira-I can understand what is in your heart by spiritual insight. Thus, I’ve come to dispel your fear of mighty warriors you’ll one day face on battlefield. Taking him to a secluded place sage gave mystic powers known as Pratismriti to him & said-When you’ll give this knowledge to Arjun, it'll enable him to approach Indra, Lord Siva, Varuna, Kuvera & Yamarāj, to acquire celestial weapons


Arjun is competent to use these mystic powers, for he is actually great sage Nara, eternal associate of Lord Narāyana. When I leave, you to move to another forest, as staying at one place will make you stagnant. Besides, this forest will soon be depleted of natural resources due to your obligation to feed many Brāhmanās


Yudhisthira after performing purification rites received Pratismriti by memorizing its mantras. Pāndavās then returned to Kāmyakavana on banks of river Saraswati & passed their time practicing weapons & hearing Vedic literature from sages


One day Yudhisthira called Arjuna to a secluded place & said-Bhisma, Drona, Krpā, Asvattāma & Karna possess knowledge of celestial & earthly weapons & are dedicated to Duryodhana. Since entire world is now under Kaurava’s rule, you’re our only shelter. When Vyāsdev last visited us at Dvaitavana, he imparted science of Pratismriti to me & now by receiving this knowledge from me, the entire universe will become accessible to you so that you can receive mercy of principal demigods


After becoming empowered with mantras, I want you to go to Himalayās & perform austerities. Encased in armor & keeping your bow & arrow at hand, you must endeavor to see King Indra, for he is in possession of all celestial weapons. Long ago, when entire world was oppressed by Vrtrāsura, demigods gave Indra their best weapons enabling him to kill great demon. Behold Indra & get those weapons


At his elder brother command, Arjuna picked his Gāndiva bow, inexhaustible quivers & encased himself in armor. Seeking benedictions for his welfare from sages, he set out to see Indra


Seeing Arjuna depart, Draupadi said- O mighty armed! May all that your mother desired at your birth, be accomplished by you. Although, I’ve suffered great misery in royal assembly when Duryodhana called me a cow & many other insults, still the grief I feet at our parting is greater


In your absence life would certainly be distasteful for us. We’re dependent on you & so may success be yours. She offered prayers for his protection


Arjuna set out after circumambulating his brothers & sage Dhaumya, eager to see Indra, the king of heavens


Our endeavor coupled with prayers do wonders. But if we think that prayers are magic wand to solve all problems, we're mistaken. Prayers should be complemented with prudent action & is not its replacement


Praying sincerely & acting responsibly works. When we pray we increase our focus & control our emotions. It keeps us spiritually connected & balanced in our approach

  Make or break!   When Salya agreed to drive Karna’s chariot only on condition that he must be allowed to speak freely whatever he likes, Duryodhana and Karna readily agreed & thus a contract was made. Duryodhana flattered Salya by comparing him to Lord Brahmā, who formerly became Shiva’s charioteer at the time of destroying Tripura   Duryodhana concluded his long talk by saying: Dear Salya, Parasurāma delivered the entire science of weapons to Karna.   Krsna’s plan!   As Asvattāma asked Krpa about what happened to his father Drona, with great anguish Krpa said: My dear Asvattāma, your father was killed by Dhrishtadyumna. Knowing Drona to be invincible as long as he would wield his weapons, Sri Krsna ordered Yudhisthira to falsely inform him of your death.
