God consciousness!

 

Draupadi said to Yudhisthira-Everyone says that God is the Supreme controller & living being achieves happiness or distress according to destiny molded by his past deeds. If this be the case, then just consider how wicked Duryodhana is flourishing while your pious self is miserable

 

The only conclusion is that God must not be just & good, as He is made out to be. Instead, He appears to be more like a capricious child whimsically arranging play of life by manipulating toy-like beings with His illusory energy. It is obvious that God is the one to blame for all our suffering. The only other possibility would be that one simply obtains happiness & distress because of his own endeavors & God and Karma having nothing to do with it

 

Yudhisthira said-You’re speaking very eloquently, but fault is that you’re presenting atheistic philosophy. Unlike you, I’m not concerned whether my acts bear fruit or not. I’ve never acted for purpose of achieving some good result or any personal benefit. I’ve always conducted myself piously because I consider that to be my duty. Indeed, my heart is naturally inclined towards virtue & thus I’ve not had to deprive myself while executing religious principles

 

One who acts virtuously expecting to enjoy good result is not a truly pious man. Indeed, one who acts with such a motive, or one who acts virtuously while at the same time maintains doubts about true merits of religious principles, doesn’t gain real result of piety

 

Dear Draupadi! Can’t you see how such great sages as Mārkandey, Vyāsdev, Nārada have achieved their exalted position as a result of acting virtuously? You should not doubt existence of all merciful Supreme Lord, nor should you criticize Him of being unjust. Doubts about the existence of God are caused by Māya, the illusory potency of the Lord. Otherwise in pure consciousness, one is able to see the Lord everywhere, either directly or indirectly

 

In lower forms of life such as plants & animals, there is no facility for understanding existence of God. On the other hand, the human form of life is nature’s special gift to conditioned soul for enabling him to come to platform of God consciousness. Of course, as long as one is covered by conditioning of nature’s 3 modes of goodness, passion & ignorance-it is not possible to directly perceive the transcendental form of the Supreme Lord

 

Still, since the transcendentally situated Supreme Lord is the origin of this mundane cosmos, His existence can be understood indirectly by perceiving the influence He exerts over His creation. In other words, if one is little thoughtful & open-minded while considering the nature of his environment, he can ascertain with firm conviction that Supreme Lord positively exists

 

When we observe the complex working of nature, we can understand that a sophisticated organization of matter is accomplished with the use of intelligence. It cannot be random or by chance. All the wonders & engineering feats achieved by humans are made possible by some person, it is not a product of blind chance. So, observation of these clearly indicates that there is someone behind the environment we are living in. This is God consciousness!
