Dilemma!
As Yudhisthira explained to Draupadi, why she shouldn’t blaspheme Supreme Lord, but instead surrender to Him for that is the highest principle, she said-I’ve never harbored even slightest disrespect for Lord. It’s because of my extreme misery that I was raving like a person bereft of good sense
Please listen as I indulge in my grief further: In this world it is seen that some people believe that destiny is sole cause of attaining some goal, some think chance is the cause & others believe that action is the only cause
In my opinion those who believe in destiny/chance are worst amongst men, whereas those who have faith in action are laudable. One who thinks that everything is obtained by chance would simply sit idle, waiting for things to happen automatically. Such person would soon meet with destruction. Actually, when something is obtained without any apparent endeavor, it's not due to chance but is result of one’s previous actions
Dull matter is inactive, but living beings are meant for action. It’s everyone practical experience that according to quality of his actions, a good or bad result is obtained. There’re certainly other factors too that influence result of our activities, but endeavor must be considered chief cause
So, one should always act to best of his abilities, knowing that success or failure will come according to sanction of God. For eg. farmer plows his field, sows seed, waits for rain knowing that he has labored his best & final success or failure is in God's hands
Miserable condition of life that we are in should be rectified by action. We should act with best abilities to regain our usurped kingdom & by fulfilling our duty will reap good or bad result as per destiny
Bhima said: O King! Life in forest is meant for cowards. What misfortune that we refrained from killing Kauravas so you could keep your promise. No real hero proud of his prowess would voluntarily accept this exile. Infact, I’d rather be killed on battlefield than live a cowardly life of peace & forgiveness. I think your so-called virtue is just coverup of your weakness. Virtue should never be practiced for its own sake
Virtue & wealth are meant for gaining prosperity & pleasure. So, your sense of righteousness should be utilized for regaining our kingdom & alleviating present distress. Dharma, Artha & Kāma are interdependent. Thus, one must allot proportionate amount of time for development of all 3 one after other. Pursuit for it must be executed with great enthusiasm else one’s life becomes miserable
To perform religious acts, wealth is required & so this life of mendicant is completely unsuitable for us. Virtue for a Kshatriya is to kill his enemies & prosper. By deviating form our occupational duties, we are subject to criticism
Yudhisthira became disturbed by words of Draupadi & Bhima & paused to think about answer
Before Yudhisthira replies to the questions, what do you think is the answer to this dilemma-Act or Wait?
