Mind IT!
After reflecting, Dhritrāshtra began to repent for having so harshly insulted his younger brother Vidura. Indeed, the old king became so aggrieved due to his misbehavior that he fell unconscious. After recovering his senses, he wept for some time with bitter remorse. He then called minister Sanjaya & ordered him: Go & bring back Vidura at once, for if you fail to do so I’ll surely give up my life out of despair
Sanjaya immediately departed for Kāmyakavana. Upon his arrival, Sanjaya saw Vidura & the Pāndavās surrounded by 1000’s of Brāhmanās. When Vidura heard Dhritrāshtra’ s message of remorse he went back to Hastināpur with Sanjaya. When Vidura came before Dhritrāshtra, the blind king affectionately took him on his lap. While begging his brother’s head, the king begged for forgiveness by saying: My dear brother during your absence, I couldn’t even sleep at night
Vidura said: You should know certain that I’m just as concerned about your sons as the sons of Pāndu. But in consideration of Pāndavās distressed condition, I’ve shown them special favor, for that is only natural. Both brothers reconciled & felt happy
When Duryodhana heard that Vidura had returned, he became dejected. Summoning Dushasana, Karna & Sakuni, he said: My friends, I’m afraid that at any moment Vidura may induce my father to call Pāndavās back from forest. Please think of some plan to alleviate my fears. If once again I see Pāndavās enjoying superior prosperity, it’ll be unbearable for me. My only recourse would be to drink poison, enter fore or kill myself with my own weapons
Sakuni said: Duryodhana be assured that once vowing to live in forest, Yudhisthira will never break his promise, for he considers truthfulness to be the highest virtue
Karna added: And even if Pāndavās return, Sakuni can once again defeat them at the dice board
These words didn’t pacify Duryodhana & he turned his morose face away from his advisors. When he saw this, Karna vehemently gestured in anger as he declared: O King! You know that we are prepared to do whatever is agreeable to you, although we’re sometimes restrained by your father. Let us put on our armor & pick our weapons. We can go to the forest this very day & kill the Pāndavās
As others applauded Karna’s proposal with great joy, without wasting time they mounted their chariots & proceeded to where Pāndavās were staying
We all fail because of 2 things. First, we may lack necessary information & skills leading to failure. In this we can then prepare ourselves for what we lack & try again. The other is that we fail due to our mind’s misjudgment, by overestimating our capacity and that leads us to believe that we know something which we don’t know, or it may underestimate our need, making us believe that we don’t need to know what is required to be known
When our mind plays itself without dovetailed to intelligence we are overcome with self-destructive actions. Let’s not listen to just our mind
