Compelled by Fate!
As Vidura was
conversing with Dhritrāshtra, celestial sages appeared & announced: During
the 14th year from present all of Kauravas will be destroyed by the
prowess of Bhima & Arjun. It should be known for certain that there is no
other cause for this than Duryodhana’s unpardonable transgressions. The sages
then disappeared
Duryodhana then
took Karna & Sakuni & fearfully approached Dronācharya. Considering Brāhmana
preceptor his only shelter, Duryodhana offered him his entire kingdom &
begged him to become his military commander. Drona accepted the position but
explained: Great sages have declared that because of their celestial origin, Pāndavās
cannot be killed. I’m also destined to die at the hands of Dhrstadyumna, who
has appeared from the sacrificial altar specifically for this purpose
O Duryodhana!
Although I can’t forsake you, I must warn you that since Destiny is Supreme,
your period of enjoyment will be brief. Rest assured that when Pāndavās will
return from exile, they’ll take revenge & all of us will be vanquished
When Dhritrāshtra
heard these words, he took them very seriously & ordered Vidura: Go at once
to bring Pāndavās back from the forest. Even if they don’t agree to return
because of their vow. They should be treated with great respect & every
possible comfort, so that their exile passes in comfort
Later when Dhritrāshtra
was seated alone overwhelmed with anxiety, Sanjaya approached him &
enquired: After obtaining the entire earth & all its wealth and exiling Pāndavās
in forest, why do you appear so aggrieved? Dhritrāshtra said: I’ve become
obsessed with the thought of my sons fighting the mighty Pāndavās & their
allies & for this reason I don’t have moment’s peace
Sanjaya said-
Whatever has happened is the result of your own blunders & now the
destruction of Kurus is at hand. By allowing Draupadi to be dragged into the
royal assembly & insulted by Dushasana, you’ve brought unimaginable
misfortune upon yourself, your relatives & friends
When someone is
destined to meet with defeat & disgrace, the demigods first of all deprive
him of his good intelligence. Thus, the deemed person sees everything in a
perverse light so that evil appears good & good seems evil. For this reason,
a person who has become overwhelmed by impending destruction takes delight in
wickedness & immorality
Duryodhana,
Dushasana, Karna & Sakuni vividly displayed all these symptoms of doom when
they dragged Draupadi into the assembly of Kings & thus you can imagine
their fate
Dhritrāshtra could
only lament & recognize this truth but it was very late. He acknowledged
that because of his staunch affection for his eldest son, all hell has broken
loose
Do we see the
parallels in our lives? What is the way out? Reflections? #gameoflife
