Within not Outside!
Duryodhana said to his father-Great authority Brhaspati has said-The ways of Ksatriyas are distinct from all others. They should act for their self interest by any means available, be they pious or sinful. Attainment of success is the only criterion for a true Ksatriya. Considering this, why are you trying to frustrate my desires? Truthfully no one is intrinsically a friend or an enemy. One who has a common interest becomes a competitor, for even small white ants at the base of tree can cause it to fall by eating away at its roots
Indra killed Namuci after making a pact of friendship with him. Thus, we can clearly see that for kings there is no consideration of morality when dealing with enemies. I’m determined to either take away Yudhisthira’s wealth or else lie down dead upon battlefield while attempting to do so. Because of envy that burns my heart, my life is not worth living unless I can achieve my cherished goal
Sakuni then spoke to alleviate Duryodhana’s grief-Don’t worry for I shall single-handedly vanquish the Pāndavās & deliver their wealth to you. Gambling is my bow & dice are my arrows. The numbers on the dice are the bowstring & the dice board is my chariot. When I enter the battlefield of the gambling arena, no one in the 3 worlds can escape unscathed
Duryodhana repeatedly begged his father to allow Sakuni to cheat Yudhisthira out of his kingdom. Still Dhritrāshtra adamantly replied-I must act according to Vidura’s advice & so I’ll make decision after consulting him once more. Duryodhana objected: Vidura is partial to Pāndavās & so he’ll never sanction the gambling match
Dhritrāshtra warned-My son, don’t you realize that this game of dice will bring about a terrible war, causing destruction?
O father! Since we’re only using dice for weapons there is no possibility of bodily injury. You give us your consent so that we can employ peaceful means to vanquish the enemy, said Duryodhana
At last, Dhritrāshtra relented even though he knew that the result would be disastrous, since immoral means never bring lasting prosperity. He said-You may do as you like. However, it’s my prediction that your nefarious deeds will ultimately bring about great calamity that will claim lives of all Ksatriyas
We may try to justify our selfish motives, but the truth remains fixed. We should complement our intelligence by sensual regulation & spiritual dedication. By doing this we can enrich our heart by purification from Anarthas (faults) which otherwise binds us to not only hurt the self but the ones we love too
Everlasting peace & happiness is within & not outside. It is in spiritual realization & not material illusion. It's in spirit not matter
