When the end is near!

As Sahadev offered Arghya to Krsna, Sisupāla observed this from a distance & became mad with rage. He rushed into assembly & addressed all kings with great agitation-Why should we tolerate Pāndavās insults & passively accept Krsna? Let us pick weapons & fight. Accept me as your commander so that we can disrupt this sacrifice before final rituals are successfully completed

Listening to this, a wave of agitation spread & kings who were already proud of their strength became further polluted when Sisupāla led them to believe that they were insulted. When Yudhisthira saw assembled kings had come under Sisupāla’s sway & were discussing to disrupt sacrifice, he went to Bhisma & said-It appears that all kings have lost reason & are about to attack us. What can be done to save the situation?

Bhisma said-Don’t fear! A dog can’t kill a lion. Krsna who is acting like a sleeping lion will protect you from these kings who are no better than barking dogs. Sisupāla heard Bhisma remarks & harshly said-This Krsna is a mere cowherd boy. It is painful to hear how His insignificant achievements are glorified out of proportion. So what if He killed a duck (Bakāsura) when he was child? So what if He lifted an anthill called Goverdhan & defeated a little water snake (Kāliya)? He killed a poor innocent woman (Putanā) & then ruthlessly killed Kamsa

Bhisma you’re also a despicable person. You cruelly tried to force Ambā, daughter of Kāsiraj, to marry Vichitravirya even though she was unwilling. Due to impotency or ignorance, you’ve vowed to live a celibate life. You propound false morality just like an old swan who was falsely propounded morality to young swans but ate their eggs at their back, till he was caught & killed

When Bhima heard this blasphemy, his eyes became red & angrily ground his teeth. He looked like death personified & as he was about to rush at Sisupāla, Bhisma restrained him with words of reason. But Sisupāla even seeing Bhima’s wrath didn’t tremble with fear but laughed foolishly

As Sisupāla continued raving like a madman, Bhisma disclosed to Bhima, the history of Cedi ruler’s birth, who was born with 4 arms & 3 eyes & brayed like an ass when born. As his parents wanted to abandon him, afraid of inauspicious signs, a voice from sky announced-This child will become very fortunate & endowed with superior strength, raise him with no fear. A person who when will place him on his lap, his extra arms & eyes will disappear but will be the cause of his death

When death comes knocking, mind if not dovetailed to intelligence, drops barrier. Mind’s feelings are rarely a reliable parameter for discerning sense from nonsense. It will let in any stimuli that feels good, even if that activity is worthless or even harmful. We get seduced by the mind’s nonsense without considering consequence

We need to equip our intelligence with scriptural wisdom & engage spiritually-informed intelligence as our protective barrier
