When in doubt!

Maharāj Yudhisthira contemplating about whether to take up the Rājsuya sacrifice or not, took shelter of Sri Krsna, meditating upon His lotus feet with concentration. He was confident that Krsna, being the omniscient, omnipotent & omnipresent Supreme Personality of Godhead, was the fit person to make the final decision regarding performance of sacrifice. He thus sent a messenger to Dvārka inviting Krsna to Indraprastha

After receiving the message, Sri Krsna immediately mounted His chariot & set out. When He arrived at Indraprastha, Yudhisthira received him with great joy & affection. Krsna first went to see his aunt, Queen Kunti & then had very jovial conversation with His intimate friend, Arjun. After he rested, King Yudhisthira approached him & said-I’d like to perform the Rājsuya sacrifice. At the same time, I’m hesitant because I know that this sacrifice can only be successfully performed by a ruler who is worshiped all over the world & who’s able to bring all opposition under control

My ministers have encouraged me to perform the sacrifice, but I know that such persons often flatter the king, sometimes out of a sense of friendship & sometimes with a motive of self-interest. Therefore, my dear Krsna, I leave the decision up to you, for you’re the person who ultimately sanctions all types of undertakings

Sri Krsna replied-My dear Yudhisthira, rest assured that you’re fully qualified to perform the Yagya. One thing I must tell you, though, is that those in this world who now go by the name of Kshatriyās, are far inferior to those who were exterminated by Parasurām. The descendants of Yayāti, Iksvāku & other former rulers of men have been divided into hundreds of dynasties scattered over the earth. The powerful king of Magadha, Jarāsandha has conquered these kings & he is supported by Sisupāla-the king of Karusa, Dantavkra, Bhagadatta & Paundraka

Having become so powerful, Jarāsandha tries to create disunion amongst Yādavas & their allies. Out of his fear, many kings of Bhoja, Pāncāla & Kosala dynasties have either taken shelter in other kingdoms or have surrendered to him. Our great enemy Kamsa married 2 of Jarāsandh’s daughters, Asti & Prāpti. Strengthened by that alliance, Kamsa also persecuted the kings of Bhoja, Vrsni & Andhaka dynasties. Finally, I killed Kamsa, but because of this, Jarāsandha has become My avowed enemy

Krsna concluded his talk saying-Yudhisthira, although you’re qualified to become emperor of earth, you cannot perform the Rājsuya yagya as long as Jarāsandha lives. He has defeated & captured many kings & imprisoned them. When the number of captured kings reaches 100, he plans to offer them in a ghastly human sacrifice to please Lord Sivā. You must first kill Jarāsandha & release these kings. Then only can you think of performing the sacrifice

When we are surrendered to the Supreme Lord, he very well reciprocates with the details & paves way to take rightful decisions.

Arjun did the same & was guided by Krsna properly
kārpaṇya-doṣopahata-svabhāvaḥ pṛcchāmi tvāṁ dharma-sammūḍha-cetāḥ
yac chreyaḥ syān niścitaṁ brūhi tan me śiṣyas te ’haṁ śādhi māṁ tvāṁ prapannam

Now I am confused about my duty and have lost all composure because of miserly weakness. In this condition I am asking You to tell me for certain what is best for me. Now I am Your disciple, and a soul surrendered unto You. Please instruct me
