Solving Purpose!


Sri Krsna took Jarāsandh’s chariot for their return journey to Indraprastha. This wonderful chariot was formerly used by Indra to battle demons & later he gave it Uparicara Vasu who in turn gave it to Jarāsandh’s father, Brhadratha. Krsna picked up the reins & as he thought of Garuda, he came & sat on chariot’s flagpole

 

People of Girivraja came out to worship Krsna, & at this time, the 88 kings that were imprisoned by Jarāsandha also came to offer their prayers to Lord expressing eternal gratitude for having been rescued from a ghastly fate. Krsna instructed them to assist King Yudhisthira in performance of Rājsuya sacrifice. A son of Jarāsandha named Sahadev came to offer his heartfelt obeisance & worshipped Krsna, who then installed him as king of Magadha

 

Upon his return to Indraprastha, Sri Krsna related to Yudhisthira all that had happened & hearing Bhima’s victory he became blissful, worshipped Krsna & embraced the 2 brothers. The kings who were rescued had also come to Indraprastha & after they received royal reception from Yudhisthira, returned to their kingdoms

 

Killing of Jarāsandha greatly enhanced Pāndavās prestige. One day, Arjun approached Yudhisthira & said-Now that I’ve received Gāndiva bow, inexhaustible quivers & a celestial chariot, I think it’s time for us to go out & conquer all directions and make all subordinate kings to pay tribute. Yudhisthira agreed to the proposal & dispatched Arjun to North, Bhima to East, Sahadev to south & Nakul to west together with large armies to support

 

As Arjun travelled North,, all kings considered his to be unconquerable & voluntarily offered him vast amounts of wealth to establish a friendly alliance. They admitted their subordination to the rule of King Yudhisthira. Arjun conquered all kings of Himalayan region After crossing White mountains, he came to Mānasa sarovar & other lakes where great sage resided. Arjun then conquered Gandharvās

 

Going further north, Arjun came to the border of Hari-varsa, the realm of Northern Kurus. The frontier guards offered him respect & said-You’ll not be able to conquer this country. Infact if any human being were to enter this region, he would immediately perish. Human eyes are not capable of seeing in this land for it is n=more subtle than Bharata-varsa. Still if you have come, let us know the purpose & we’ll satisfy you to the best of our capacity

 

Arjun said-My only desire is that King Yudhisthira is recognized as emperor of entire world. I will obey your command & not enter Hari=vars but I request you to give something valuable as tribute to my elder brother. The guard brought many valuable gifts & Arjun thankfully retreated


Even if we are in a position of strength, unnecessary display of the same is not required if our purpose is solved without it. There is great responsibility in being blessed with position, power, skills and should be pertinently used for a higher purpose & not self-aggrandizement

  Principles to fight & die for! Arjun had Uttara halt his chariot at some distance from Kaurav army to survey the opposition. He thought that if he could simply vanquish Duryodhana, other Kauravas would automatically desist. But he noted that Duryodhana was absent. Arjun ordered Uttara: Avoiding the Kaurav army, take the road to Hastināpur so that we can overtake Duryodhana and retrieve the plundered cows   From Arjun’s course, Krpā could understand his intention & so he had ordered the entire Kaurav army to go & protect Duryodhana.
