Knowledge in mode of ignorance!


Krsna said to Jarāsandha-O foolish king! You consider yourself unrivaled in prowess, but it’s only due to your arrogance for there are many who’re equal to or superior. Know that I’m your old enemy Krsna & my companions are sons of Pāndu, Bhima & Arjun. We challenge you to either release imprisoned kings or else fight


Jarāsandha happily accepted challenge & chose to fight with Bhima, considering him superior in strength to both Krsna & Arjun. Performing some propitiatory rites to invoke good fortune, He then rushed with great eagerness to fight carrying only his 2 massive arms as weapons. A fierce battle followed & both warriors struck each other with fists & kicked with feet. From time-to-time Bhima picked up Jarā & hurled him a great distance. Jarā would do same exhibiting wrestling moves. Soon everyone came out of the city to watch


Beginning from 1st day of Kārtika month, the colossal heroes fought continuously throughout day & night without food or sleep. At last, on 14th night, Jarā became fatigued & stopped momentarily to catch his breath. Krsna took this opportunity to prod Bhima by sarcastically saying: Now that Jarā has weakened, you should fight with him mildly. Bhima replied-I’m not going to spare Jarā now that I’ve finally gained advantage after so long


Sri Krsna knew mystery of Jarāsandha’s birth & so by means of various signs, he communicated to Bhima the method of encompassing his death. After doing so, Krsna said-O son of Kunti! Now is the time to exert all your strength so that you can slay the one who was joined by Jarā


Understanding Lord’s intention, Bhima picked up Jarāsandha. While holding him over his head, Bhima whirled him around 100 times & then smashed him on ground with all his strength. He then grabbed him & after pressing his knee against his back, pulled his legs apart until his entire body split right up the middle along the line where it had been joined at birth


Splitting Jarāsandha in half, Bhima roared ferociously & then placed his dead body next to city gates. Lord Krsna went & released all imprisoned kings. The end of tyrant king brought them relief from imminent human sacrifice


Here the Supreme Lord is establishing the sanctity of human life & all other lives in general. People in general have skewed understanding of things & hence feel that what they do is correct from their own-colored lens. Thus comes all things by which one cheats, hurts & even takes other’s lives. When one cultivates knowledge in the mode of ignorance, he justifies ends without focusing on the means. It’s like entering a deep unending tunnel & deeper they go, father they’re from light


Today’s predominant ideology of materialism where material science may explain material phenomenon, but as spirituality has taken a back seat, we may know how things work but WHAT FOR is missed. The bigger purpose of human endeavor is forgotten making us blind for eventual self-destruction

  Principles to fight & die for! Arjun had Uttara halt his chariot at some distance from Kaurav army to survey the opposition. He thought that if he could simply vanquish Duryodhana, other Kauravas would automatically desist. But he noted that Duryodhana was absent.
