Sri Nārada gave details of assembly
hall of Kuvera, built by Lord of wealth himself. When Kuvera sits in this hall,
he is surrounded by his 1000 wives. Lord Shiva often comes there along with Pārvati
& other associates, just to visit his friend. The great mountains, headed
by Meru, worship Kuvera in their personified forms. This hall is attached to
sky & so can go anywhere floating in air
Nārada said to Yudhisthir-In Satya-yuga,
I met Sun god, Adityā. After visiting assembly hall of Lord Brahmā, Adityā came
to earth in human form & I happened to meet him. He described wonders of
Lord Brahmā’s assembly hall & I became curious to see it. But he explained
that it takes a particular vow to be executed for 1000 years to qualify for seeing
it. Thus, I went to Himalayas to execute austerities & upon its completion,
Adityā came again before me
Sun god escorted me to Brahmalok
& then took me on a guided tour of the assembly hall, which factually is
indescribable because as soon as one attempts to say something about it, it
changes form. This self-effulgent hall is not supported by pillars & as it
is almost eternal, knows no deterioration. While seated within this hall, Brahmā
is worshipped by 8 elements, 5 sense objects & greatest of sages including Kasyapa,
Bhrigu, Vasistha & Kardama
3 modes of material nature & Vedas
remain there in their personified forms, as do the Sun, moon &
constellations. Brahmā is attended to by Dharma, Artha, Kāma, Gayatri, intelligence,
fame, forgiveness, the Kāla chakra, days, moments & lokapālas, all in
personified forms, what to speak of lesser demigods. O King! As your assembly
is unrivaled in world of men, Brahmā’s assembly hall is unparalleled anywhere
in the world
After hearing awe inspiring
description, King Yudhisthira asked Nārada-While speaking about assembly hall
of Yamarāj , you mentioned names of almost all great kings that had ruled
earth, but when you described hall of Indrā, you mentioned name of only one
earthly king, Harischandra! What did he do to achieve such a distinction? You
also said that you’d seen my father in Yamrāja’s assembly. Did he say anything
about me?
Nārada said-King Harischandra brought
entire planet with its 7 islands under its sway. He prepared for performance of
Rājasuya sacrifice & all kings of earth contributed vast wealth & came
personally to assist him in various duties. At the completion of Yagya, the
King gave in charity 5 times more wealth than was requested by each person
& because of this he outshone all other kings
Any king who can successfully
perform the Rājasuya Yagya attains the planet of Indra. Also warriors who give
up lives on the battlefield without turning their backs ascend to Indra’s abode
In life what we do is important but
why we do it is equally important. Our intention is critical to what we do else
our ego will sabotage the whole purpose. Content with intent makes the
difference
Krsna says
ātma-sambhāvitāḥ stabdhā dhana-māna-madānvitāḥ
yajante nāma-yajñais te dambhenāvidhi-pūrvakam
Self-complacent and always impudent,
deluded by wealth and false prestige, they sometimes proudly perform sacrifices
in name only, without following any rules or regulations
