Emotional outburst to Mature response!
Mere sight of chariot gifted by Agni to Arjun delighted the mind. The flag on chariot bore mark of Hanumān & there were other flags wherein sat fierce creatures whose shouts caused enemy soldiers to faint. Arjun respectfully circumambulated the celestial chariot & holding Gāndiva bow, joyfully mounted it. He now considered himself capable of combating anyone within 3 worlds
Agni presented the Sudarshana Cakrā to Sri Krsna along with Kaumodaki club, which roared like thunder when wielded. Even though in reality these 2 weapons are Krsna’s eternal paraphernalia, still he was very pleased to accept it & from that time the Cakrā became Krsnā’s favorite weapon
As Arjun twanged string of Gāndiva, tumultuous sound created caused creatures to tremble for miles around. He then told Agni to begin burning Khāndava forest & start devouring entire area with its flames. Seeing great conflagration on all sides, forest creatures panicked & as they tried to escape a fiery death, they were pierced by arrows of Sri Krsna & Arjun. As forest became more & more engulfed in flames, 1000’s of panic-stricken creatures ran helter-skelter & started to die in the fire
Ponds within forest began to boil because of intense heat and fishes & tortoises too perished. Birds tried to fly away but were pierced by Arjun’s arrows & fell back into blazing forest. All beings created an uproar being burnt alive. The flames finally rose so high that even demigods became alarmed & approached Indra. After being informed about situation, he sent dark masses of clouds to extinguish fire. However, as clouds showered torrents of rain, water evaporated before reaching ground due to intense heat
Indra became enraged & so he sent more powerful clouds. Thereafter, as lightening flashed from above & smoke billowed from below, the combined effect created a ghastly scene. Arjun then employed a celestial weapon to create an impenetrable umbrella of arrows above entire forest so that rain couldn’t touch the fire & no living being can escape the inferno
When one reacts & not responds, he may spend time & energy but to no avail. In every situation, we need to respond depending upon its merit & not similar reactions. Our body has mechanized output when all bodily actions happen by interaction of senses with sense objects. This is when we get involved emotionally or take things personally. For example, on seeing or smelling a delicacy, our tongue might water. But if we were fasting, then despite the tongue watering, we would still abstain from eating it. The tongue’s watering is a mechanical reaction that needn’t change our intention
Gita wisdom illuminates our inner world into 3 levels-body, mind & consciousness. Corresponding to these levels, all actions begin first as a physical reaction to an external stimulus, then as emotional activation of desire for that stimulus, & finally as conscious intention to indulge in that object. If we learn to differentiate between these 3, then we won’t let physical or emotional reaction grow into a conscious intention as an unthinking, unstoppable progression. We will see those reactions as just programming that we need to acknowledge & can distance ourselves from our reactions
We then respond & not just react. Spiritual practices make us more self-aware in this effect & helps us make a mature response
