Duhsāsan was in-charge
of food supplies & Asvattāma looked after Brāhmanās. Bhisma & Drona
scrutinized everything in case there was an oversight. Krpa took charge of
precious jewels & managed distribution of charity to brāhmanās. Vidura was
the treasurer & Duryodhana was in-charge of receiving gifts presented by
visiting kings
By his own choice Lord
Krsna, took charge of personally washing feet of all brāhmanās, just to show by
His personal example how important it is to worship devotees of the Lord
All kings who came to
see Maharāj Yudhisthira perform Rājsuya sacrifice, presented him with immense
wealth that was not less than one thousand of anything that was given. Each of
these proud kings flattered themselves thinking that only by their generosity,
Yudhisthira was able to perform the sacrifice. All guests received presents of
immeasurable value & provided with every sort of royal comfort during their
stay
When Rājsuya sacrifice
commenced, demigods filled sky in their celestial chariots to witness the
historic event. The sacrifice was performed to everyone’s complete
satisfaction, for not even a tiny detail & not even a single person was
neglected. On the last day of sacrifice there was an intermission & all
sages and Kings in the arena began to discuss various topics of philosophy
& religion. Scriptures & their commentaries were discoursed on various
subjects with great eloquence
At this time Nārada
muni, leader of sages, observing great fortune of Maharāj Yudhisthira &
assembly of great personalities, became absorbed in thoughts. He remembered how
previously in assembly of Lord Brahmā; demigods discussed about incarnations
they would take to assist Lord Krsna in His mission to remove burden of the
earth. He knew that Lord Nārāyana had ordered demigods to appear on earth &
He had now appeared in Yadu dynasty and would soon destroy almost all kings
that had assembled. The sage was astonished to think how the Lord of all
sacrifices had personally appeared in sacrificial arena
Bhisma said to
Yudhisthira-O King! Arghya (libation of water) should now be presented to honor
all sages & kings present here. Let the first presentation be given to the
foremost personality in assembly. Yudhisthira said-O Grandfather, who do you
consider the greatest personality in the assembly?
Bhisma confidently
declared-There is no doubt that Krsna is not only the foremost person present
here, but he is the Supreme Personality of Godhead as well. He has descended
upon earth to execute mission of demigods, who are all his obedient servants.
He possesses all opulence to an unlimited degree & He is the origin of
everything
The success of any
endeavor depends upon its purpose. We need strong sense of purpose to translate
whatever skills we have into tangible achievements. But if our purpose is not
dovetailed to spiritual essence then the results won't bring lasting
fulfillment
We may achieve huge
material success but then wonder what to do next. A sense of purposelessness
& frustration creeps in. Devotional purpose thankfully comes to our rescue
Krsna says
nāsti buddhir ayuktasya
na cāyuktasya bhāvanā
na cābhāvayataḥ śāntir
aśāntasya kutaḥ sukham
One who is not
connected with the Supreme can have neither transcendental intelligence nor a
steady mind, without which there is no possibility of peace. And how can there
be any happiness without peace?
