Plans!

Sāntanu & Satyavati were married & 2 sons Citrāngada & Vichitravirya, were born to them. Soon Sāntanu passed away & at Satyavati’s command Bhishma installed Citrāngada upon throne. One day Gandharva king Citrāngada witnessed unrivalled prowess of his namesake & out of envy approached King of Kurus, challenging him for a fight. At Kurukshetra, near river Sarasvati, the 2 Citrāngadas fought fiercely for 3 years before Gandharva king emerged victorious

Bhishma dutifully performed funeral rites of his stepbrother & then installed Vicitravirya, who was still a minor. Bhishma ruled the kingdom under direction of his stepmother Satyavati. When Vicitra reached maturity, Bhishma wanted to arrange for his marriage & hearing that Kāsiraja had arranged a Swayamvara for his 3 beautiful daughters, he went there taking permission from Satyavati

As names of Kings & princes in attendance were being announced in Swayamvara arena, Bhishma suddenly grabbed 3 girls & placed them upon his chariot. He then addressed the assembly & challenged all to stop him if they can from kidnapping girls. He proclaimed that with regards to 8 kinds of marriage, wife obtained by force after vanquishing all opponents is especially dear

Assembled kings hastily put their armors & picked weapons. A furious battle took place but despite many great warriors attacking Bhishma simultaneously, all were defeated. As Bhishma moved on, Salya rushed at him, challenging him for a duel. Bhishma angrily killed Salya’s horses & driver & allowed Salya to return back alive

Bhishma brought the 3 daughters of Kāsiraja back to Hastinapur. As Bhishma was busy arranging for marriage ceremony, Amba-the eldest of 3 daughters approached him & said-I’ve already given my heart to Salya & he has fixed his mind upon me, so I beg you not to force me to marry Vicitravirya. Bhishma allowed Amba to go wherever she pleases. Vicitravirya married other 2 sisters Ambikā & Ambalikā to his brother

Vicitravirya enjoyed company of his beautiful wives & after few years, still at prime of his youth, died

Satyavati was overwhelmed with grief at the death of her last son. The Kuru race was about to end. Her plans to put her sons & grandsons ruling Hastinapur throne came to a halt. She wondered what to do to sustain the kingdom & who would be the King

Man proposes & God disposes

We all make plans and hold our plans tightly and stay focused. Amid life’s many distractions, holding on to our plans gives us a sense of purpose, orientation progression and completion. But while holding onto our plans, we need to guard against holding them too tightly. Otherwise, when life’s uncertainties wrecks our plans we may start blaming, complaining & disoriented and with that negativity we may lose sight of the end result the plan was supposed to bring

When our plans become futile, we should align ourselves to the higher plan of the Supreme Lord with confidence that ultimately it will bring good to us
