Opposite!
Duryodhana continuously plotted to kill Bhima & one day devised a plan to drown him in Gangā. He arranged for construction of a palatial building, as a holiday resort, on the shore of river at a place called Pramānakoti. Once it was made, it was filled with all kinds of enjoyable articles. Duryodhana invited the Pāndavās to join him & his brothers so that they could all play together in the river
Both Kauravas & Pāndavās enjoyed all things of entertainment, engaged in various types of play & affectionately exchanged food with one another as they feasted sumptuously. At this time, wicked Duryodhana mixed poison in some food & presented it to Bhima, who ate it to his satisfaction. After feeding Bhima, Duryodhana was convinced that his objective has at last been accomplished. He invited everyone to play in water. After sporting for a long time, all became fatigued & came out
After quickly dressing, they laid down for rest. Bhima was especially tired & due to poison, he laid on ground near the riverside & lost consciousness. Duryodhana seeing the opportunity, tied Bhima’s arms & legs with strong rope & threw him into the river. Gradually the unconscious Bhima sank down deeper & deeper until he reached the Kingdom of Nāgas
1000’s of poisonous serpents bit Bhima all over the body except his chest, which was too hard for their fangs to penetrate. When the serpents’ poison was mixed with poison that Duryodhana had administered, the 2 neutralized each other, causing Bhima to regain consciousness. He immediately broke the ropes binding him & began killing serpents. The surviving snakes went & informed their King Vāsuki about what happened
Vāsuki hurriedly approached Bhima taking with him a serpent called Aryaka (who was Kunti’s great grandfather). When Vāsuki saw Aryaka embracing Bhima with familial affection, he desired to gift something to Bhima as token of friendship. As per Aryaka’s suggestion, Bhima was given “Rasa” from kund, a kind of nectar that endows one with immeasurable strength. When vessels of that nectar were brought, Bhima drank eight of them before being filled to the brim. He then laid down to rest
Bhima already had the strength 0f 2000 elephants & now drinking 8 vessels of nectar, he possessed strength of 10000 elephants. Duryodhana in fact helped him gain so much strength despite plotting his death
The search for pleasure drives all of us but unfortunately for many of us it does the opposite-brings trouble. The pleasure which tastes like nectar initially tastes likes poison eventually
viṣayendriya-saṁyogād yat tad agre ’mṛtopamam
pariṇāme viṣam iva tat sukhaṁ rājasaṁ smṛtam
That happiness which is derived from contact of the senses with their objects, and which appears like nectar at first but poison at the end is said to be of the nature of passion
Happiness derived from a combination of the senses and the sense objects is always a cause of distress and should be avoided by all means
