Mind games!

Sauti narrated great history of Bhrigu’s lineage. The sages then requested him to tell story about Pāndavas

Sauti said-When Vyāsdev learnt that King Janmejaya was preparing to perform snake sacrifice, he went to Hastināpur along with his many disciples. The King was delighted to see his great grandfather & after paying respects had him seated on a golden throne. He then expressed his eagerness to hear history of Pāndavas & Kauravas. Vyāsdev asked his disciple Vaisampāyana to recite Mahābharat. Vaisam paid respects to Nārayana, Nara-nārāyana Rsi, Sarasvati & the author before starting

There was once a king named Uparicara who was devoted to virtue. He was king of Paurava race also called Vasu. Under orders of Indra, he conquered Chedi kingdom, but after some time, tired of ruling his vast kingdom, he retired to a secluded place in forest to perform austerities. Thinking that Upari was endeavoring to occupy his position as King of heavens, Indra with many other demigods came to see him

Indra said-It would be better if you protect earth as its ruler so that virtue will never decline. Ensure that citizens are honest, contended & never lie even in jest. Animals are not in pain & sons take care of parents. I shall award you a crystal chariot by which you can move across sky & a garland of unfading lotuses that when worn will ensure you’ll never be injured in battle. Upari agreed to resume his duties & Indra also gave him a bamboo pole to rule his subjects

After a year, Upari planted that pole in ground & worshipped Indra, who came in form of swan to accept his offerings. Upari’s capital was situated by side of Suktimati river. Once the deity of nearby mount Kolahal became lusty after seeing Suktimati’s beauty & embraced her by force. Upari angrily kicked Kolahal freeing Sukti. Still, she gave birth to twins & gave them to King. When they grew up, the King made the boy commander of his army & married the girl named Girika

It so happened that Uparicara became father of twins, who were born from the stomach of a fish. A fisherman caught a female fish (who was Apsara Adrikā cursed by a Brahmana), cut open her belly & found 2 human babies, a male & a female emerging from her stomach. He went to King to present them, who decided to keep the boy & gave the girl to fisherman to raise as his daughter

The boy went on to become pious king Matsya & the girl grew up as beautiful and virtuous Satyavati

Fear of losing one’s position and devising schemes to maintain the status quo is not a sign of competence. When we elevate ourselves from others by our skills & abilities and not by keeping others down, there is no fear of losing anything. This elevation is more satisfying & rewarding too

This is all due to our mind which overtakes over intelligence. Uncontrolled mind, which is incompetent, dominant & malevolent acts as a taskmaster which is short lived driven by the conception of enjoyment

Who has control over mind? Thoughts? #gameoflife
