💗Love & freedom🕊!

One day Bhisma approached Vidura & suggested names of 3 girls, whose families he felt were suitable to be allied with Kuru dynasty thro’ marriage. After Vidura’s consent, first messengers were sent to Subala, king of Gāndhara, asking for his daughter’s hand for Dhritarashtra. The princess of Gāndhara, who possessed very exalted character, had received benediction from Lord Sivā that she would give birth to 100 sons

At first, Subala hesitated to give such highly qualified girl in marriage to a blind man but gave his consent considering great prestige of Kuru dynasty. When Gāndhari heard that she was to be married to a blind man, she voluntarily covered her eyes by a wrapping cloth, just to follow her husband’s destiny. Subala’s son Sakuni brought Gāndhari to Hastināpur & the marriage took place with great pomp under Bhisma’s direction

After marriage Sakuni returned home & Gāndhari soon pleased all elders by her gentle nature & good behavior. She was an ideal chaste wife

The king of Yādavas, Surasen-father of Vasudeva, had a daughter called Prthā, who possessed unrivalled beauty. Out of friendship he gave Prthā to Kuntibhoja (son of his paternal aunt), who was childless, so that he could raise her as his own daughter (Due to this Prthā was also known as Kunti). In her youth Kunti pleased sage Durvāsa by her meticulous service. The sage, foreseeing that Kunti’s future husband would meet untimely death, granted her benediction of being able to summon any demigod to beget children

Kunti out of curiosity to check the benediction of sage, summoned Sun-god, who immediately appeared to give her a wonderful child, who’d become foremost wielder of weapons. Out of fear of her relatives, Kunti secretly delivered the child, who had natural armor & earrings. She then placed the child in a basket upon a river. The child was picked up by a couple who named him Vasusena (He was also known as Karna)

Later, Kuntibhoja arranged for her foster daughter’s Swayamvara & invited numerous kings & Princes. Pāndu also arrived, & the moment Kunti saw him, she was agitated at heart. While quivering with emotion & bending her head due to shyness, Kunti approached Pāndu & garlanded him. Other kings present in the assembly returned home without a fight accepting Kunti’s decision. The marriage was soon solemnized

There is a deep relationship between love & freedom. When we are in love, we give freedom to other half to make decisions independently. Freedom is fulfilled & not denied in love. When we love someone, we sacrifice some of our freedom to do things that will please them & avoid doing things that would displease them

It is only when we are ready to focus our love by relinquishing some of our liberty can we relish a richer relationship with anyone. Love is a bond that seems to curtail freedom, but it actually fulfills freedom
