Break Free!šŸ†“

After birth of Yudhisthira & Bhima, Pāndu desired to have a child that would be capable of vanquishing all enemies. Considering Indra to be proper father of such a child, he became determined to perform austerities to please the King of heaven & also ordered Kunti to observe auspicious vow for a year. Finally Indra appeared & said-O King! Rest assure that your austerities will bear fruit

Pāndu asked Kunti to invoke Indra by chanting her mantra & thus Arjun was born. A celestial voice described his glories & his future heroic pastimes

Soon, Mādri approached Pāndu in private & expressed her great sorrow. With tearful eyes, she said-Although both Kunti & I are your wives, she has received 3 sons & I’ve none. I’m ashamed to ask Kunti about mantra sage Durvāsa gave to her to beget children. But if you approach her on my behalf, then I could also have opportunity of begetting sons. Pāndu agreed

Pāndu asked Kunti to allow Mādri to invoke demigod of her choice with the help of her mantra. Kunti cheerfully agreed. Mādri meditated on twin Asvini-Kumaras, the heavenly physicians & she begot twins Nakula & Sahadev

Yudhisthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula & Sahadev were born at 1-year intervals & each time local sages performed birth & name giving ceremonies. All 5 possessed celestial beauty & soon became favorites of neighboring sages

Thereafter, spring season arrived, delightful for all living beings. On one especially pleasant day, Pāndu took opportunity to enjoy wandering the charming forest in company of Mādri. Trees were full of varieties of fruits & dazzling array of flowers, singing birds captivated ears & warm sunshine was wonderfully agreeable to the sense of touch. Gentle fragrant breeze blew & in this heavenly atmosphere, Pāndu could not help but enjoy beholding his beautiful youthful wife

Pāndu appreciated her beauty & a strong desire for sensual enjoyment flared within his heart. Mādri knew about curse of Sage Kindima & hence cautioned Pāndu to restrain himself, but he appeared to be seeking her embraces with the desire to end his life. Soon the Kuru hero left his body & clasping Pāndu’s lifeless body in her arms, Mādri began to wail

At times we become so weak in front of our desires & urges, that it seems that we have no control & free will to restrain ourselves. Our desires become like shackles. We are all prone to addictive behavioral pattern & it seems to constrict our free will to let it go. This happens when one is wedded to a materialistic sense gratification & has no spiritual elevation to expand the scope of his free will

Instead of material if our consciousness is dovetailed to spiritual, we connect with the Supreme Lord who anchors us in weak moments and provides us satisfaction & purification. Thus we get the impetus & intelligence to resist entangling desires. The more we use our free will to serve the Supreme, more we become enlightened & empowered to break free from our attachments
