Ramayana’s Reflections #1

As we finished the series with the coronation & glorification of Rām Rajya and the elements of good governance, here are few reflections

Relevance of extreme sacrifice which is practiced by Ramayana’s characters is not relevant in today’s times

Lot of people think that if we sacrifice like Rām, Bharata, Laxman, Sitā & others in today’s self-centered culture then we will be exploited and embarrassed. This is a very valid thought as the principles have to be seen in terms of time, place & circumstance. The protagonist of Ramayana offers through their exemplary behavior, inspiration to us how we should think & behave. This is not for imitation or duplication of a particular sacrifice as done in the epic in our lives, but appreciation of the principles laid down with a broader perspective of establishment of human values and behavior

We need to evaluate our present-day relationships & interactions and consider the applicability in context before deciding upon how to apply the spirit of sacrifice into our lives. The familial bonds require sacrifices, love & compassion and how to do it all depends upon our intelligence. The overall purpose is to elevate our consciousness of self & others by taking responsibility in letter and spirit

Team spirit requires sacrifices, and we can often see that team players are much appreciated in both personal & professional arena rather than brilliant individual efforts which can benefit in short term but goes against the purpose of overall upliftment of team. Enterprises, family, society, countries must work in the larger benefit of the ecosystem we are all part of and hence requires sacrifices from one and all to propagate universal principles of “to live & let live”

So, sacrifices are an indispensable part of our relationships, interactions and ultimately for our survival

Let us all play our part in this age of selfies & selfishness. Let’s get inspired to develop the WE consciousness rather than ME consciousness, from different characters of Epic Ramayana and contribute
