Rāmayana–Rām+Ayana-Journey of Lord Rām-Reflections#3

To feel the presence of Lord Rām in his absence is Rām consciousness

Hanumān=(Hanu) One who has a distorted jaw. It also means one who has sacrificed his honor for the service of the Lord (Han-sacrifice, mān-Honor). So Hanumān is always in the service of his Lord Rām without even claiming to be of any significance himself

Hanumān was very powerful & mischievous in his childhood days and in playful mood he often would disturb the sages, hence he was cursed to forget his power & valor by them. That is why even he was more powerful to Vāli, he was still just an ordinary person accompanying Sugriva (when was banished by Vali), without being able to defend him. He just forgot his own prowess, but everyone knew that he was a special person who will dedicate himself in the service of the Supreme Lord in future

Hanumān when wanted to have education, he was told that Sun god is the best teacher, as he has received knowledge from Krsna himself, the Supreme personality of Godhead (imaṁ vivasvate yogaṁ proktavān aham avyayam, vivasvān manave prāha manur ikṣvākave ’bravīt-Śrī Kṛṣṇa, said: I instructed this imperishable science of yoga to the sun-god, Vivasvān, and Vivasvān instructed it to Manu, the father of mankind, and Manu in turn instructed it to Ikṣvāku)

Hanumān approached Sun god as his student, but was declined as Sun said, how he can teach him as he is constantly moving. Hanumān said that he will also move with him. So, he moved in reverse direction with speed of the Sun & facing him to learn everything. And hence learnt everything with eagerness

At the end Hanumān felt very grateful to Sun god that he taught him so much and humbly requested to ask for Guru Dakshina. The Sun god was very proud of Hanumān that he was such a good student who diligently learnt from him & said-To have the student like you is the greatest dakshina (gift) a teacher can have. You were such a wonderful student that I imparted all what I knew seeing your enthusiasm

After being persuaded by Hanumān to ask for Dakshina, Sun god relented & said that my expansion, my son Sugriva is banished at Kishkindha & I request you to assist him and protect him always. That is why Hanumān was always by the side of Sugriva and subordinated him despite he himself being so powerful

Huge lessons for us. As a student, humility enthusiasm & eagerness to learn is an asset as it attracts the mercy of teacher to impart the best knowledge he can give

Also Krsna says in Bhagvad Gita - sarvasya cāhaṁ hṛdi sanniviṣṭo, mattaḥ smṛtir jñānam apohanaṁ ca- I am seated in everyone’s heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness. This means that whatever skills we have we should use it for the service of the Lord else he gives knowledge but also takes it back and makes us forgetful of our prowess

Let’s be a sincere student of Spiritual knowledge & serve our spiritual master to the best of our abilities
