One mistake & the consequence is.....


Sauti said to sages-By saying Om, Ganesa proceeded to write what Vyāsa dictated as Bhārata to him. I know 8800 verses, so mysterious in meaning that hardly anyone can understand them. Even Ganesa took a moment to consider while Vyāsa continued to compose other verses in great abundance

 

This work Mahabhārata is a tree, its chapter of contents is the seed, divisions called Pauloma & Astika are roots, Sambhava is trunk, Sabha & Aranya-the roosting perches, Arani is knitting knots, Virata & Udyog the pith, Bhishma-the main branch, Drona-leaves, Karna-fair flowers, Salya-sweet smell, Stri & Aishika-refreshing shades, Santi-mighty fruit, Ashwamedha-immortal sap, Asramavasika-spot of growth & Mausala-epitome of Vedas

 

Sauti said-Spirited & virtuous Vyāsa, by injunctions of Bhishma-wise son of Ganga, became father of 3 boys, by wives of Vichitra Virya. They were raised as Dhritrashtra, Pandu & Vidura

 

Vyāsa thus published Bhārata. When Janmejaya & 1000 Brahmanas solicited to hear it, Vyasa instructed his disciple Vaisampayana to recite during intervals of sacrificial ceremony. The greatness of Kuru dynasty, virtuous principles of Gandhari, wisdom of Vidura & constancy of Kunti is represented in Bhārata. The divinity of Vāsudeva, the rectitude of Pandu’s sons & also evil practices of sons of Dhritrashtra are also described

 

Originally Vyāsa composed 24000 verses of Bharata. Afterwards he composed an epitome in 150000 verses. He first taught this to his son Suka & then to his other disciples. After he executed another compilation of 600000 verses, of which 300000 verses Narada recited to devas, 150000 Devala to Pitris, 140000 Suka to Gandharvas, 100000 Vaisampayana to mankind

 

King Pāndu, after having subdued many countries by his wisdom & prowess, took up his abode with Munis in a forest as a sportsman, where he brought upon himself a very severe misfortune by killing a stag coupling with its mate. This served as a warning for the conduct of princes (Kunti & Madri) of his house as long as they lived. In order that ordinances of law might be fulfilled, they admitted as substitutes to their embraces the gods Dharma, Vayu, Indra, & twin Aswins

 

When their offspring grew up, under the care of their 2 mothers, in society of ascetics, in midst of sacred groves & holy recluse-abodes of religious men, they were conducted by Rsis into the presence of Dhritarashtra & his sons. 'These are your sons, your brothers, & your friends. 'They are Pandavas' saying this, the Munis disappeared.

But the acceptance of Pandavas was a big challenge


One mistake of King Pandu and course of history was changed forever


We often misunderstand the power of one. One correction and the flow changes for good & one mistake and it turns into a catastrophe. When we are casual in our actions without due regard to principles and norms, we face consequence much bigger than the act itself

  Make or break!   When Salya agreed to drive Karna’s chariot only on condition that he must be allowed to speak freely whatever he likes, Duryodhana and Karna readily agreed & thus a contract was made.   Krsna’s plan!   As Asvattāma asked Krpa about what happened to his father Drona, with great anguish Krpa said: My dear Asvattāma, your father was killed by Dhrishtadyumna. Knowing Drona to be invincible as long as he would wield his weapons, Sri Krsna ordered Yudhisthira to falsely inform him of your death.
