Bodily conception!

Sauti continued telling story to sages at Naimish forest-Sage Bhrigu’s son Chyavana begot a son in the womb of his wife Sukanya, called Pramati, who from his wife Ghritachi begot a son called Ruru. And Ruru with his wife Pramadvara got a son called Sunaka

I will now tell you more about Ruru

There was a Rsi called Sthulakesha possessing ascetic powers. At that time Viswavasu, king of Gandharvas had intimacy with Apsara Menaka, the celestial dancing girl. She gave birth to a girl but out of shame she dropped the infant on the banks of a river. As the destitute mother went away, Rsi Sthula found the girl forsaken on river side. The girl was dazzling & extremely beautiful. Rsi was filled with compassion brought her under his protection. She grew up learning all the fine arts from her foster father, who named her Pramadvara

Pious Ruru once saw Pramadvara & immediately fell in love with her. He asked his father to approach Rsi Sthula for asking girl’s hand for him. The marriage was agreed upon & fixed for an auspicious day in Purva Phalguni

Few days before nuptial day, Pramadvara while playing with her friends, trod upon a serpent who bit her violently. She dropped senseless & her friends were horrified. Many Brahmanas filled with compassion came to see the girl including Ruru, who was distraught

Ruru, mortified beyond measure, retired from the scene, went to deep forest & wept aloud overwhelmed with grief. He prayed loud & said, let my merits restore the life of my beloved. If I have any powers of my penance, let the fair Pramadvara rise from ground

As Ruru lamented, a messenger from heaven came & said-Your affliction is ineffectual as Pramadvara’s days have run out, so don’t consign your heart to sorrow. But great gods have provided a means to restore her life if you resign half your life to her. Ruru said-I most willingly offer a moiety of my own life in favor of my bride. Dharmaraj then agreed to Ruru’s wish & the girl rose from slumber but curtailing Ruru’s life

Ruru & Pramadvara then got married with due rites & the couple passed their days devoted to each other. But Ruru made a vow for the destruction of the serpent race

Love wins against all odds but it also lays ground for enmity against others who come in between. But true love transcends all boundaries for one & all with no iota of envy against anyone. If we realize our true self, which is soul, then we realize that it never dies but only changes bodies. The reaction either positive or negative we get are due to our past Karmic reactions and should bear it with patience

Krsna says in B Gita

dehino 'smin yatha dehe kaumaram yauvanam jara

tatha dehantara-praptir dhiras tatra na muhyati

As the embodied soul continually passes, in this body, from boyhood to youth to old age, the soul similarly passes into another body at death. The self-realized soul is not bewildered by such a change
