Speech!

After being coronated, Vibhishana sought presence of Rām. He then offered all the auspicious objects to Rām & Laxman. It was accepted by Rām with a sole desire to show gratefulness to Vibhishana

Rām then said to Hanumān, who was standing in humility with his hands joined in salutation-O benevolent one! Taking permission from great Vibhishana, enter the city of Lankā & inform about welfare to Sitā. You are proficient in speech & thus in a salutary disposition inform Sitā that myself together with Laxman & Sugriva are well & that the demon Rāvan has been killed in battle

O Hanumān! The master of Vānaras! Make clear this favorite news to Sitā, you ought to return taking back her message for us

Thus, directed by Rām, Hanumān the son of wind god, entered the city of Lankā, being respectfully received by the demons. He asked permission from Vibhishana & getting approval entered Ashoka grove as per the prevailing regulations. He saw Sitā at the foot of the tree, bereft of freshness, looking joyless like a frightened cow & surrounded by she demons. Approaching her humbly & offering salutation to her by bending his head, he stood there silently

Even after seeing the mighty Hanumān, Sitā was silent. She then reflected & recollected about him & rejoiced. Seeing her cool face, Hanumān narrated the entire message of Rām to her. O Sitā! Rām is well, together with Sugriva & Laxman, along with Vibhishana as his supporter and collectively with the Vānara army. O divine lady! Having destroyed his enemy, Rām the annihilator of his adversaries, accomplished his object & is informing you about his welfare

Rām & Laxman with the support of Vibhishana & Vānaras has killed the valiant Rāvan. I’m telling you this pleasant news & eulogizing you as you’re the knower of righteousness. Rām has achieved this great victory in battle because of your power. Now you please be free from grief & be comfortable

Whenever we speak to others, how we can communicate to be effective. This can be done by appealing to both their head & their heart. When others deliberate on what we say, the assimilate the message else it has limited value

Austerity of speech consists of speaking truthfully & beneficially & avoiding speech that offends. It should be spoken as per the scriptural guidelines. One should not speak in such a way as to agitate the minds of others. Of course, when a teacher speaks, he can speak the truth for the instruction of his students, but such a teacher should not speak to others who are not his students if he will agitate their minds. This is penance as far as talking is concerned

Besides that, one should not talk nonsense. When speaking in spiritual circles, one's statements must be upheld by scriptures. One should at once quote from scriptural authority to back up what he is saying. Also such talk should be very pleasurable to ear. By such discussions, one may derive highest benefit and elevate human society, says Srila Prabhupada
