Purity & Prosperity

On hearing harsh words, Sitā said to Rām-O King! Why Hanumān, the great hero, was sent by you to search for me? Why I, who was still in Lankā was not abandoned then & there itself? I would have given up my life immediately on hearing message of desertion in front of Hanumān when he came. This wasteful endeavor of crossing over to Lankā & waging war against mighty Rāvan & putting your life in jeopardy would have been avoided. Your friends would also have been saved of such fruitless hardship

O knower of virtues! My birth was from Janaka in disguise, but I am actually born from earth. Still my sacred birth of such a high degree is not honored by you. My hand taken as your bride is not recognized by you. My devotion, my chastity & all have been ignored by you. Sitā thus speaking, weeping & stammering, with tears in eyes then faced Laxman, who was himself sad & in deep thoughts, said-O Laxman! Create a pile of fire for me, which is a remedy for this disaster. I no longer wish to survive smitten as I am with false blames

I will enter fire to obtain the only course appropriate for me. I’ve been abandoned amidst an assembly of men by my husband, not satisfied with my traits. Hearing words of Sitā, Laxman the destroyer of enemy warriors, giving way to wrath, looked towards Rām. Understanding the inclination of the mind of his brother, hinted by expression of his face, Laxman prepared a pyre, in defense of the wishes of Rām

None was able to cajole or to even speak or look at Rām, who appeared like Yama, the lord of death at time of dissolution of world. Sitā then circumambulated Rām, who was standing with his head bent low & proceeded towards blazing fire

Sitā offered salutations to celestials & Brahmins, joined palms to raging fire and said-As my heart never moves off from Rām, so let the fire god, the witness of the world, protect me from all sides. As Rām apprehends me, though of unimpeachable conduct, to be spoilt, let the fire-god protect me. As I have never been unfaithful in act, thought and speech to Rām, who knows all the virtues, so let the fire-god protect me

Since the Sun & moon god, wind god, the 4 quarters, the deity presiding over daytime, twilights, night and earth & even others know me to be endowed with good conduct, so let the fire-god protect me. Thus speaking, Sitā walking around fire, with her mind free from hesitation entered blazing fire

Purity is a force to reckon. Impurity of greed, lust or envy makes us poor despite of all the riches we may have. When we purify by raising ourselves in the mode of goodness then we gain clarity to understand that happiness depends more on our inner world than the outer world. We can then start cultivating & cherishing the purity that will enable us to be satisfied. Our connection with Supreme Lord takes us spiritual prosperity

Impurities of heart keeps us always impoverished
