Peace!
Sitā further praised Hanumān-Numerous good qualities are there in you, strength, valor, knowledge of scriptures, vigor, prowess, superlative skill in action, spirit, forbearance, firmness, stability & above all humility. Hanumān was overwhelmed and embarrassed, joined his hands in salutation and stood bent in front of Sitā
Hanumān said-If you permit me, I wish to kill all these notorious she-demons by whom you were tormented and frightened. These cruel demons of terrific form & behavior with still more cruel eyes, having ugly faces were speaking harsh words to you at Rāvan’s command. You suffered lot of hardships at their hands. I wish to eliminate these cruel, deformed demons with distorted features, terrific hair & eyes. Pls bless me
Reflecting & pondering for a while, when spoken thus by Hanumān, the compassionate Sitā who was kind to the miserable, said to Hanumān-O foremost Vānara! Who can be angry with maid-servants who are dependent on their King’s command & work in obedience to the orders of others? All what has happened to me is a consequence of my bad fortune or is on account of my misdeed committed by me in the past. The fruit of one’s own making is indeed experienced in one’s life
O Hanumān! Do not speak like this. This is indeed a great divine strategy. It was ordained that this type of situation is to be obtained by me, due to the application of fate. Feeble as I am in these matters, I am forgiving the servant-maids of Ravana here. On command of their king, they threatened me and as he is dead now, they will cease to do so
Hanumān was in awe of such intent to forgive & feeling of peace within without agitation on act of others
Krsna says in Gita
nāsti buddhir ayuktasya na cāyuktasya bhāvanā
na cābhāvayataḥ śāntir aśāntasya kutaḥ sukham
One who is not connected with the Supreme [in Kṛṣṇa consciousness] can have neither transcendental intelligence nor a steady mind, without which there is no possibility of peace. And how can there be any happiness without peace?
We are so agitated by the actions of others at work & otherwise. When one understands that Supreme Lord is the only enjoyer of all the good results of sacrifice & penance, that He is the proprietor of all universal manifestations, and that He is the real friend of all living entities, then only can one have real peace
Therefore, if one is not in God consciousness, there cannot be a final goal for the mind. Disturbance is due to want of an ultimate goal, and when one is certain that Kṛṣṇa is the enjoyer, proprietor & friend of everyone and everything, then one can, with a steady mind, bring about peace, says Srila Prabhupada
Hence, one who is engaged without a relationship with Supreme Lord is certainly always in distress and is without peace, however much he may make a show of peace and spiritual advancement in life
This is the core of forgiving others as well
