Boon or bane!

Hearing words of Rām, sage Bharadwaj smiled & said-O Rām! Bharat is doing severe penance at Nandigram while you were away. His body is mud smeared & his hairs are matted locks. He has taken burden & blame for your exile upon himself but is still taking care of Ayodhya well. All are safe at your home & in city. Don’t worry

O Rām! When I saw you going to great forest on foot, with sole intention of practicing virtue, clad in pieces of bark, away from sovereignty, deprived of all enjoyments, like an immortal fallen from heaven having renounced all possessions, with your spouse (Sitā) & Laxman, resolved in carrying out promise of your father & intent on implementing the pledge given by him to Keikeyi, living on wild roots and fruits, pity arose in me earlier. But now, a great delight occurs to me on seeing you, having fulfilled your purpose, conquering your enemies & accompanied by host of your friends & relatives

The joy & sorrow experienced by you in abundance while residing at Janasthana forest is known to me. While you were busy protecting the sages, who had prayed you for safeguarding their interests, you irreproachable wife was taken away by Rāvan

O Rām! Appearance of Māricha, abduction of Sitā by Rāvan, killing of Kabandha, your arrival at the Pampa lake, alliance with Sugriva, Vali’s killing, search-operation for Sitā, exploits of Hanumān, tracing of Sitā, construction of bridge Nalasetu over sea, how Lanka was set on fire by the rejoiced Vānara-chiefs, how Rāvan who was thorn for gods & was arrogant of his might, was killed in battle, with his sons kinsfolk & ministers & how a boon was conferred by gods on you- all this is known to me by virtue of my asceticism. My disciples, who were accustomed to report to me the news, used to go to Ayodhya from here

The friends, the riches & the grains are highly honored in this world. Mother & Motherland are far superior to even the heaven

Rām bowed to the Sage & humbly asked a boon-O venerable sire! Let all the trees on way to Ayodhya, bear fruit in off season as well & flow with honey. Let the trees be laden with abundant fruits of various kind emitting fragrance of nectar

The sage gave consent & said – Be it So!

All trees for an extent of 3 yojanas (24 miles), which otherwise are barren, bore fruits & looked charming with blossom. All Vānaras seeing this rejoiced & jumped in joy seeing the wonderful fruits & consumed them at will

If we seek a boon or a favor from someone, it should not be for ourselves but for the benefit of others. Asking for self, boosts false ego and is also not sustainable. When we show concern and seek to help others masking it for power over others, it objectifies others & demonizes them if they don’t cooperate. Charity is a state of mind with the only intention to help others with no intent for any return howsoever gross or subtle it may be. Else it is a bane

Beware! Power grabs are sophisticated outcome of mind
