Why we?
Seeing Rāvan killed by great souled Rām, female demons (consorts of Rāvan), stricken with grief, rushed out of gynaecium (Antahpura) of their palaces. Even though impeded every now & then by their maid servants, they rolled in dust of Lankā streets & were tormented like cows that had lost their calf. They came out of northern gate of Lankā & rushed onto terrific battlefield, searching for their husband, who had been killed crying-O my Lord!. They ran hither thither on the ground covered with headless trunks & rendered muddy with blood
Those women had their eyes filled with tears & lamented loudly like female elephants who had lost the leader of the herd. They saw gigantic Rāvan, who was endowed with great strength & invested with great splendor, lying killed on the ground. Seeing their husband lying in dust, they fell on their limbs like uprooted wild creepers. One woman wept & embraced him, other clung to his feet & another caught hold of his face
A woman rolled over ground, one fell into swoon, & other kept Rāvan’s head in her lap, looked at his face and moistened it with her tears as drew drops moistens a lotus flower. This was same Rāvan by whom Indra was fearful, Yama was struck with terror, Kubera was robbed of his Pushpaka aerial car, Gandharvas were in trepidation & sages dreaded. But his destruction came from a mortal, whom he did not even think can ever harm him
Rāvan, against all his conjecture, incapable of being killed by celestials or by demons, lies killed by a man coming from Ayodhya, uttered the women. For your own death, Sitā was kidnapped by you. You didn’t listen to your near & dear ones who gave friendly counsel to you, as a result all demons & you lie dead. Though tendering salutary advice, Vibhishana, your beloved brother was harshly scolded in ignorance by you as you sought your own destruction. What a pity, said those women lamenting hard over the body of Rāvan
If you had restored Sitā, princess of Mithila to Rām, this appalling disaster which has robbed us of every root, would not have befallen us
For the intelligent, any one incident in life can teach many lessons but others don’t learn even learn one from many incidents.
Why this happens?
Gita explains-The conditioned living entities are divided into 2 classes in this world. Those who are born with divine qualities, they follow a regulated life, they abide by the injunctions in scriptures & by the authorities. One should perform duties in the light of authoritative scripture. This mentality is called divine. One who does not follow the regulative principles as they are laid down in the scriptures and who acts according to his whims is called demoniac or asuric. There is no other criterion but obedience to the regulative principles of scriptures
Do we?
