Sin or Sinner!
Seeing his brother Rāvan lying dead after defeat in battle, Vibhishana lamented with his mind filled with sorrow. He said-Why are you lying on ground though you’re worthy of lofty beds. O valiant hero! celebrated & prudent in polity, why your long arms decked in armlets are now motionless & your diadem, which is brilliant as Sun, is knocked down?
O Brother! That which I told you earlier & which was not liked by you, has come true. As you were overcome with sensuality & infatuation, that very fate has been obtained by you. Why did you not listen?
Because of arrogance, neither Prahasta nor Indrajit & others nor Kumbhkarna, nor Atiratha nor you yourself agreed to my counsel, the consequence of which we can see now. The hero, foremost among those who wield weapons has fallen on the ground, the epitome of strength is gone, the refuge of eulogies has gone out of sight, the Sun has fallen, the moon has merged in darkness, the fire has extinguished its flames & a strenuous effort is inactive now
What is remaining in this world now, while Rāvan the foremost of demons, is at present lying asleep in dust? With firmness for its shoot, endurance for its excellent blossom, asceticism for its strength, & valor for its firm root, the large tree in shape of Rāvan has been crushed in battlefield, by the tempest in shape of Rām
With prowess & power for its expanded flames, sighs for its smoke & his native strength for its glowing heat, the blazing fire in shape of Rāvan has been extinguished in battlefield by the rainy cloud in shape of Rām
To Vibhishana, who was thus speaking in despondency, Rām said following words, full of reason & which revealed his determined view of the matter. He said-Rāvan did not die in battle, without making an effort. He has fallen in combat, even though he was endowed with terrible prowess & exhibited extra ordinary enthusiasm of a very exalted type & remained confident throughout. There is no occasion to grieve for him, having fallen to death in battlefield & by whom the development of his country is what he wished for, while remaining steadfast in the duty of Kshatriya, the warrior
Some people may hurt us, are hostile & cause unbearable pain to us & we should act assertively against them to ensure that they don’t continue to harm us. But it is also important that we also need to act against hate itself, which is sowed inside, so that we may not become habitually hateful & caught up in the cycle of perpetual hatred
Our fight is with the sin & not the sinner. Once that is corrected, it is not prudent to carry negative assertion further else it becomes an obsession
To develop this balanced view, we need to realize that we all are part & parcel of the Supreme Lord and to offer devotional service is our true fulfilment. When we serve, we come out of this hate push of mind
Hate contaminates us not others
