🔼Real Liberation!☝🔼
As Mandodari & other Rāvan’s wives were lamenting, Rām said to Vibhishana-let the obsequies (funeral rites) of your brother be performed & let these women be consoled. Intelligent Vibhishana, the knower of virtue spoke to Rām, in conformity with righteousness & self-interest-I’m not obliged to perform the last rites for my brother, who had abandoned the vow of virtue, who was cruel, who killed human beings, who was a cheater & who longed for other’s wives
This Rāvan, who was interested in wishing evil to all, though venerable as a respected elder, is not fit for honor. He is my enemy in the guise of my brother. If I do not perform his funeral rites, O Rām! The human beings on earth will speak about me as ruthless, but hearing about his bad qualities all of them will say that it is a good act
Hearing these words, Rām the best among the supporters of virtue & skilled in speech spoke to Vibhishana-O king of demons! I too have to do a favor to you. I have won the battle because of you. Certainly, I’ve to give you an appropriate advice. This Rāvan may be full of unrighteousness & falsehood but he was brilliant, strong & ever a brave warrior in battles. It is heard that Rāvan who was mighty, endowed with strength & was causing people to cry, was not conquered by the celestial chiefs like Indra & others
Hostilities end with death. Our purpose has been accomplished. Let his funeral rites be performed. He is even as good to me as he is to you. According to rule, Ravana is eligible to get the last rites on his dead body from you, by usage. You will also become fit for glory as you would perform the rites and would win the praise from all
Having heard the words of Rām, Vibhishana in haste began to do obsequies for Rāvan, his dead brother
Executing responsibility even in the most adverse circumstances is a hallmark of spiritual empowerment. Our feeling driven actions can be binding not liberating. This is because our feelings & emotions are often fickle & unreliable. But in contrast a sense of responsibility can empower us. To do this we need clear intelligence driven by our scriptures like Bhagwad Gita. This will unbind our feelings that rebel against execution of responsibilities
Liberty is not to do what we feel like doing but that is servitude to senses. Liberty is to elevate us by following our Dharma & who other than Rām could be our best teacher
Maryada Purushottam Siyawar Rāmchandra ki Jai!
