Rāvan consorts wept pitifully & said-If you’d have restored Sitā to Rām, Vibhishana would have had his desire fulfilled, Rām would have been our ally, we would have been spared of the curse of widowhood & our enemies wouldn’t have realized their ambition. When you forcefully captivated Sitā, we were doomed the same day
O King! You acted per your free will, but that only may not be the reason for your destruction. Everything is being run by divine powers & so this also is an act of providence. The course of destiny, when ready to bear fruit, cannot be diverted either by money or wish or valor or even by a command in this world
While they wept, Mandodari, the senior most & beloved wife of Rāvan, feeling miserable, stared at her husband killed by Rām of unimaginable exploits. She said-O great armed! Brother of Kubera, even Indra does not dare to stand before you when you were enraged. Because of fear from you, illustrious Gandharvas & wandering bards fled in all directions. How is that you’re not ashamed of being conquered in battle by Rām, a mere mortal?
How a mortal wandering in forest can kill you? You had overcome 3 worlds by dint of your prowess. It is not possible for Rām to kill someone who can assume any form & who lived at a place not accessible to anyone. I don’t believe this act of Rām in battle, nor his attack on your army well equipped with all implements of war, an act of mere mortal
The moment your brother Khara was killed by Rām in Janasthana, though surrounded by multitude of demons, it was evident that Rām was really no mortal. We saw Hanumān penetrating deep into Lankā, difficult to be entered even by celestials. The day Vānaras built bridge on ocean, that day itself I was sure that Rām is no ordinary mortal, else for your destruction Yama-lord of death, assumed form of Rām in an unimaginable form of illusion
Rām is certainly an eternal being, greater than distinguished universal spirit like Brahmā, the one beyond ignorance, a nourisher wielding a conch, disc & mace, wearing 'Srivatsa' mark on his chest. He, of lasting beauty, unconquered, being constant soul of universe, mighty lord of all worlds, the prosperous one having a great splendor & Vishnu, lord of maintenance of world with a wish to benefit all, assuming a human form surrounded by all gods in the form of Vānaras, is Rām who killed you
How could you not realize this?
Illusion it is! It sometimes captivates us to an extent that even we disregard the guide, who can take us out of the mire. Such is its captivating power that it makes us so falsely proud that it covers the way out and we are in big trouble. No rescue!
How to come out of it? When the futility of illusory pursuits are evident & the material desires are frustrated, if by Supreme Lord’s grace, one comes in contact with Gita’s wisdom either by spiritual association or divine intuition internally, then the illusion starts dissipating & Bhakti Yoga comes to rescue
