Illusion🙄
Powerful portents were visible on battlefield-God of rains poured blood on Rāvan’s chariot; horrible winds blew from right to left forming circles & a large flock of vultures flew in the same direction in which Rāvan’s chariot was going. Lankā was overcast with dusk resembling red Japa flower & large meteors along with lightning fell with great noise. The earth trembled below Rāvan’s chariot & arms of demons looked clasped unable to move their weapons
Falling before Rāvan, the rays of Sun appeared coppery, yellow, white & dark, like mineral ores on a mountain. The she-jackals followed by vultures hastily uttered inauspicious howls on beholding Rāvan’s face as if vomiting fire from their mouths. Scattering dust upwards over the battlefield & clouding vision of Rāvan, wind blew in direction inimical to him. Even without appearance of clouds, thunderbolt fell on his army from all sides with a noise that was hard to endure
All the quarters & intermediate points of the compass became covered with darkness. Hundreds of awful Sarika birds with their awful howls fought with each other & fell on Rāvan’s chariot. His horses discharged sparks of fire from their hips & loins & tears from their eyes. Frightful portents in multitudes thus were visible bringing danger & destruction to Rāvan
In contrast, pleasant & auspicious omens depicting victory for Rām appeared on all sides, seeing which Rām was very much pleased & considered his battle won against the demon king. Rām, with knowledge of all omens & seeing those portents in his own way in the battlefield, rejoiced & was extremely happy showing enhanced prowess in combat
A fierce and prolonged chariot battle ensued between Rām & Rāvan then, which was frightful to all the worlds. The army of Vānaras & the army of demons stood motionless with their weapons held fast in their hands witnessing the terrific war. Their hearts were captivated seeing the 2 warriors engaged in fight with full strength, and experienced great wonder & stopped fighting one another
Rām was very much convinced spotting the good omens that he will win & Rāvan firmly persuaded his death. No one can stop a person from his destruction if he himself is attracted to his demise, like a moth approaches fire
Mayā, the illusory energy is formidable & her three agents are lust, anger & greed, which are the 3 gates to hell. This illusory energy has a much-sophisticated process to attack. Sometimes it approaches in the form of temptation & sometimes thro' creating confusion. Temptation allures our mind with something we know is not good for us but we are still go for it. In contrast confusion attacks our intelligence by blinding us to what is right & what wrong despite clear signals for the same
To overcome this, we all need to surrender to the Supreme Lord & follow the path laid down by him mentioned in scriptures
sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja
ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ
