Humble or Vulnerable!
As Rāvan fell, separated from his life, bow & arrows fell from his hands. Having lost his life, the demon king who was endowed with terrible swiftness & was invested with great splendor, fell down from his chariot to the ground. Seeing their king fallen on earth, the surviving demons were panic stricken & ran away to all sides. The Vānaras who fought with trees, encircled those demons from all sides & assumed triumphant appearance seeing killing of Rāvan. Demons rushed towards Lankā looking miserable thus being tormented
Roaring with shouts of joy, rejoicing & proclaiming Rām’s victory, the Vānaras behaved like conquerors. The celestials with cheerful kettledrums reverberated the sky & very pleasant winds carrying divine odor blew there. They poured over the chariot of Rām fascinating shower of flowers, straight from heaven on earth. The gods pronounced in top voices-Well done! Bravo! And sang panegyric in praise of Rām
When Rāvan, the cruel demon & terror of all the worlds was killed, great joy filled the hearts of gods, Gandharvas, Charanas & Sages. With the killing of demon king, Rām also fulfilled the desire of Sugriva, Angada & Vibhishana. All got their mental peace. All the quarters were brightened up & the sky became clear. The earth did not tremble & the Sun shed a steady light
Rejoiced with the victory in battle, Sugriva, Vibhishana and Angada together with Laxman, along with their friends’ paid respects with due ceremony to Rām, who looked charming. That Rām, the delight of Dasharatha, for his part, who had just killed his enemy and thus was steadfast in his vows, and who was endowed with a great splendor, stood surrounded on the battlefield by his own people and the army, shone like Indra the lord of celestials
Rām was smiling and in all humility acknowledged the efforts of all
When we believe that we are invulnerable & don’t need anyone’s help, that is a sure shot recipe for disaster. Such foolhardy overconfidence takes one towards self-destroying trajectory. We need to acknowledge that we need help of something outside of ourselves. We need help to protect ourselves not only from world’s uncertainties but also from temptations. There are so many people responsible for our success and to acknowledge the same is not vulnerability but humility
Overestimating ourselves & underestimating others pushes us to be self-complacent & impudent. A lethal combination
