Choosing our battle!

Rām seeing Laxman hit by Rāvan’s spear, became sorrowful for his brother. His eyes were filled with tears, reflected for a while & then was very much enraged. Becoming aware that it was not the time to feel despondent about Laxman, Rām resumed the highly tumultuous battle with great endeavor & was determined to destroy Rāvan

Laxman struck by the mighty spear was bathed in blood. Some Vānaras tried to pull out the spear but could not do so as they were tormented by stream of arrows launched by Rāvan. Penetrating thro’ Laxman’s bosom, the spear touched earth. Rām then went to Laxman, seized that awful spear, drew out & broke it. As Rām was drawing out the spear, Rāvan shot multiple arrows on his vital organs & limbs but he ignored it and embraced Laxman

Rām spoke to Hanumān & Sugriva-Encompass Laxman on all sides. Time has come to manifest my prowess, which I’ve been wishing for a long time to kill malicious Rāvan. I take this vow in truth before you at this moment, that without delay you’ll see the world devoid of either Rāvan or Rām. I’ve encountered loss of sovereignty, dwelling in forest, wandering around woods of Dandaka & rough treatment of Sitā by demons. I’ve endured great suffering & an agony equal to hell. Now it’s time to relieve myself of this

This sinful demon, for whose sake, the army of Vānaras has been brought to Lankā, Sugriva was anointed on throne after the killing of Vāli, ocean has been crossed & a bridge is built on it, has come within range of my sight in battlefield now. You all will witness this battle & let the 3 worlds including Gandharvas, gods & sages also see this. Today I’ll perform a feat, which people will narrate in times to come. Thus speaking, Rām with an attentive mind struck Rāvan with sharp arrows decked in pure gold

Rāvan also streamed forth blazing arrows & then clubs. A tumultuous sound arose from the excellent arrows released by both warriors as they struck each other. Their arrows split asunder & scattered off with their blazing points falling from space on earth. The loud sound produced by the impact of bow string on the palms of both, struck terror in living beings

We all should keep our best to fight the most important battle of our life. Normally people fight not just because of a big issue but also because they have nothing important in their life. So they tend to make something trivial important to unnecessarily ensue a fight

Our scriptures explain that we are all pushed around by 3 modes of material nature: goodness, passion & ignorance. And when we function in the mode of ignorance, we fall prey to violence at minor provocations. We tend to not see things in proper perspective. We need to contemplate on issues that are of importance & worth fighting for & not just a simple provocation which can charge our emotions & drains us

Choose your battles wisely!
