Blessings!
Approaching Rām absorbed in the fight & seeing Rāvan who was preparing to restart the battle, glorious sage Agastya, who had come together with celestials to witness the battle, said- O mighty armed Rām! Hear the following eternal secret by which you can conquer all enemies in battle, my child
The holy hymn in praise of Sun god, which can destroy all adversaries, can bestow victory, give undecaying prosperity, is supremely auspicious, is blessing of all blessings, roots out all sins, allays all anxiety & grief & can prolong life, is to be chanted by you at this time. Worship Sun god, ruler of worlds, crowned with its rays, is greeted by celestials & demons alike & brings light to the world
He is embodiment of all gods, full of glory & protects all in world by its rays. He is Brahmā the creator, Vishnu the protector of Universe, Lord Shiva the god of destruction, Skanda (son of Lord Shiva), Prajapatis (the10 lords of created beings), Indra the ruler of gods, Kuber the bestower of riches, Kāla the Time-spirit, Yama the god of retribution, Soma the moon-god & Varuna ruler of the waters
The Pitrus, the 8 Vasus, the 12 Sadhyas, the 2 Ashvins physicians of gods, the 49 Maruts (wind-gods), Manu (progenitor of human race), Vayu the wind-god, the fire-god, the created beings, the life-breath of universe, the source of seasons & the store house of light is Sun. He is an offspring of Aditi, is the nourisher of all with rains. He has 7 green horses, is thousand-rayed, the destroyer of darkness, the source of happiness, infuser of life in the lifeless cosmic egg
Sun is the disperser of darkness, master of the 3 Vedas (Rik, Sama & Yajur) & the one who courses swiftly across the sky. He is the controller of all planets & stars. O Rām! No one who worships the Sun is distressed ever. Sage Agastya recited the hymn in full to Rām & asked him to chant it 3 times & he’ll be victorious in all battles
Hearing this Rām was delighted & retained the hymn in his memory with his devoted mind. Sipping the water thrice, getting purified & looking intently towards the orbit of the Sun, he repeated prayers with full attention
Rām then marched forward for the fight & vowed to kill Rāvan with an intense effort. Seeing Rām’s intent & foreseeing the death of Rāvan, the Sun God standing in the middle of celestials, said – Hasten up! Kill the tormentor of the world
Blessings from others & Prayers to the Supreme Lord makes us enriched. They give us inner satisfaction & confidence to be mentally disciplined. We should count our blessings when we go through a tough phase in our lives. We should count our health, family, friends, financial security, social environment etc. We should feel proud of all these things and even the nature's blessings in the form of heat, light, wind, water etc needed to sustain us. We should be humble to acknowledge the ultimate source of all blessings
Feeling blessed itself promotes us to become a blessing for others
