Peace not War!

Seeing Mahodara fallen, mighty Mahaparshva was enraged & with eyes red in anger, stirred up Angad’s army with arrows. He struck down heads of Vānaras from their trunks, as wind would throw down a fruit from its stalk. Tormented by his flight of arrows, Vānaras were downcast with despair & lost heart

Seeing his army depressed, Angad with great impetuosity, exhibited his tempo like an ocean on full moon day. He took hold of a steel rod & hurled it at Maha, who dropped senseless & unconscious on ground together with his charioteer. Energetic Jāmbavan, looking like heap of black collyrium, killed demon’s horses & broke chariot. Regaining his consciousness within a while, Maha again struck Angad with many arrows & struck Jāmbavan & Gavaksha too

Angad seeing this was infuriated & seized an iron rod. Firmly holding it & turning it around with force, he hurled it at demon. Hit by rod, Maha’s bow & arrow were knocked down from his hand. Approaching him with great speed, Angad then slapped him on the temple pushing him back. Maha then held a huge axe & threw it on Angad, who evaded it. Vali’s son then tightened his fist resembling a thunderbolt & knowing where vital parts of body are, pounced it on the bosom of demon. With that blow, Maha’s heart was blasted & he fell dead on ground. All Vānaras let out a lion’s roar & rejoiced

As Mahaparshva fell dead, demon army got confused & a mammoth anger rose in Rāvan. He prepared for the battle again & said to his charioteer-I’ll kill 2 princes, Rām & Laxman today to avenge all those who have died for me. I’ll cut down the tree, which is in the shape of Rām, and whose principal branches are Sugriva, Jāmbavan, Kumud, Nala, Dvivida, Mainda, Angad, Gandhamadana, Sushena & Hanumān. Rāvan then went quickly, making noise in all 10 directions towards Rām

Rāvan employed highly terrific & frightful mystic missile called Tamasa, which began to consume all Vānaras, who started falling down on all sides. Dust began to fly up from earth, as frustrated Vānaras fled, not being able to withstand the missile built by Brahmā himself

Seeing hundreds of warriors of his army shattered by excellent arrows & missiles of Rāvan, Rām took his stand & got ready for the battle

Rāvan was bewildered into fighting a war that was not winnable. We also face same situation, when our mind resents all things, we think went against us. Everything cannot be on our side always & if we develop resentment every time & not accept that few things are in fact unchanging, however hard we may try, we will be on a losing side. The mind impels us to be combative for all wrongdoings-Present or past, actual or imagined, intentional or unintentional, big or small and we just cannot forgive & be at peace

We need to focus on fighting wars which are important to elevate us in devotional disposition and not boost false ego perception. Service rather than lordship would keep us in peace not war & that requires prudence
