Demoniac!


As 4 of Rāvan’s sons & other mighty demons entered battlefield, they saw army of Vānaras having uplifted rocks as their weapons. Vānaras saw demon army appearing like black cloud but blazing like Sun on all sides, abound with elephants, horses & chariots, resounding with hundreds of small bells & wielding great weaponry. Vānaras not able to tolerate the demons, roared again & again


Vānaras of terrific prowess though impeded by flood of arrows, initiated a matchless rain of trees, rocks & mountains. They pounded demons & killed them. Demons also pierced foremost of Vānaras with sharp arrows & struck them with spears, mallets, swords & javelins. They mowed each other with desire to conquer each other


As fierce battle ensued, mighty Narantaka, mounted on horse having speed of wind, entered as a fish enters ocean. In an instant he killed 700 Vānaras with his shining Javelin. As he hacked his way forward, his path was covered with a mire of flesh & blood along with heaps of dead bodies. Even before Vānaras got time to uplift trees & rocks, his javelin struck them & they fell like pins. He was equal to many demons & struck panic amongst his enemy rank


Vānaras unable to tolerate onslaught, approached their King Sugriva, who asked Angad to go & kill Narantaka. As Sun comes out of cloud, Angad came bouncing & said to demon-Stop! Why are you tormenting common Vānaras, throw your javelin towards my chest. Enraged demon, biting his lip with his teeth & hissing like a serpent, released his radiant javelin. It broke against Angad’s chest, which was hard as diamond & fell on earth. Seeing demon without weapon, Angad then stretched his palm & hit Narantaka’s horse & it fell on earth with his head shattered


Enraged Narantaka raised his fist & struck Angad on his head. Blood oozed out of Angad’s head, surprising him how much power demon had. Clinching his fist, with a force equal to death, he then hit at the chest of demon. Having his chest deeply sunk back by fist blow, Narantaka fell as mountain is broken up by thunderbolt


Seeing Narantaka of great prowess killed, Vānar army emitted a great roar of triumph. The other sons of Rāvan, seeing end of Narantaka, now prepared themselves to assault Angad all at once & moved forward with lightning speed


All the sons of Rāvan had done austerities to gain boons in the mood of fulfilling their demoniac desires. The hunger for power enabled them to perform austerities which outshined the austerities of celebrated sages even. Deadly demon Hiranyakasipu also performed such intense hardship to gain protection from death from nearly all elements & beings but still he was killed by Narsimhadev


Huge lessons for all of us. When we do austerities & focus our efforts to gain things by avaricious, malicious & even murderous activities, but the end to all gains is catastrophic. This is demoniac! Our efforts, hence should be principled and as per the timeless wisdom of our scriptures

  Make or break!   When Salya agreed to drive Karna’s chariot only on condition that he must be allowed to speak freely whatever he likes, Duryodhana and Karna readily agreed & thus a contract was made. Duryodhana flattered Salya by comparing him to Lord Brahmā, who formerly became Shiva’s charioteer at the time of destroying Tripura   Duryodhana concluded his long talk by saying: Dear Salya, Parasurāma delivered the entire science of weapons to Karna. Grudge-The heaviest thing to hold! Asvattāma hurriedly yoked horses to his chariot & set out, as Krpa & Krtvarma anxiously followed him. He soon arrived at Pāndava camp & saw a gigantic being with enormous head with flames emanating from his eyes, nose, ear & mouth   Asvattāma fearlessly attacked that awesome being with his celestial weapons but failed in all his attempt. He thought to himself: Krpa had warned me that persons who don’t listen to their elders must lament later. The frustration of my attempt must be due to its inherently sinful nature.
