Consequence!

Indrajit further spoke cruel words to his uncle Vibhishana-Consanguinity is not a norm for you, nor friendliness, nor brotherly feeling nor right conduct. O evil minded! You’ve abandoned your own & have entered service of our enemy. You’re not recognizing the great difference because of your feeble mind-to be with your own kith & kin or taking refuge in low kind of enemies

You may see virtue in opponents & vice in your kindred, but a relation which is bereft of any merit & evaluation is preferable. An enemy is indeed ever an enemy. One who abandons his own & take sides with adversary, is killed after his own kinsmen are destroyed, by people whom he helps

Hearing this, Vibhishana replied-O wicked one! Why do you speak perversely as if you’re not aware of my nature? Atleast out of respect for elders, abandon your harshness. Even if I’m born in a demoniac race, who do cruel acts, my nature leans towards goodness, a prime virtue of human beings. I neither delight in cruel acts nor rejoice in unvirtuous. How can a brother(Rāvan) drive away his brother(Me) even if the former’s nature is different?

Renouncing a man of sinful resolve, whose conduct has deviated from righteousness, one attains happiness as one shakes off a venomous serpent from his hand. Wise men say that an evil-natured person, who is intent on taking other’s property & lustfully touches another’s wife, is worth shunning as one abandons a house in flames

3 faults produce destruction-Taking other’s property, lustfully touching other’s wife & excessive distrust in friends. Rāvan also killed great sages, waged war against celestials, is arrogant, becomes angry easily, is quarrelsomeness & is ill-willed. These have concealed good qualities of my elder brother, as clouds conceal view of mountains. Because of these vices, Rāvan, your father & my brother, has been abandoned by me. Neither this City of Lanka will exist any longer nor you nor your father

You can talk to me as you may like since you're arrogant, foolish, indisciplined & caught as you are, in the noose of Death. You can't reach the banyan-tree any longer to finish the sacrifice. It’s not possible for you to survive Laxman. After being killed by him, you’ll do sacred work in abode of Yama, god of Death

Do spend all your weapons & arrows, by showing your own augmented strength. Reaching the range of Laxman's arrows, you’ll not indeed return alive with your army today. Prepare to die

What an important message for all of us to be careful of the faults & the subtle influence they have. We may turn a blind eye to principles of Dharma, but the consequence will catch up sooner or later. We see in our professional lives too, such deviations if not nipped in the bud or at least not supported, brings havoc to one & all and in some cases destroys enterprises

At personal level too, we need to be careful of our conduct & also make sure the culprits are neither encouraged nor supported. Huge lesson!
