Blinded!
Seeing Rām’s prowess, celestials along with Gandharvas, saints & sages acclaimed his feat & said -Well done! Vānara army rejoiced too
Seeing & hearing about killing of such large number of demons, surviving ones were frightened, overwhelmed with anxiety, wailed piteously. All female demons who lost their husbands, sons & kinsfolk in war, met & stricken with sorrow said-How did that old & ugly Surpanakha approached Rām in forest? How did she, bereft of all virtues made advances to Rām, who is full of virtues, endowed with strength & charming countenance? Despite destruction of Khara & Dushan, the disgusting woman tried to be arrogant & roused Rāvan for revenge
For the sake of that Surpanakha, Rāvan built huge enmity. For his own destruction, he kidnapped Sita & brought her to Lankā. Rāvan by any means cannot obtain chaste Sita, but has built animosity with mighty Rām. Indeed, seeing the instance of Rām single-handedly killing demon Viradha, who was yearning for Sitā, should have convinced Rāvan of Rām’s strength. In Janasthan Rām killed 14000 demons too of terrific strength with his arrows resembling tongues of fire
The battle with Trishira should have been an eye opener. Kabandha, whose arms were 8 miles long, was killed in similar manner. When the mighty Vāli, son of Indra, was killed by Rām, it was established that no one is superior to him. The kingdom was restored to miserable Sugriva, signaling righteousness of Rām. Appropriate advice given by Vibhishana, which was suitable for demon king was also ignored due to his ignorance. Had Rāvan followed his advice, Lankā would not have become the burial ground for so many of us
Rāvan also couldn’t learn lesson even after hearing mighty Kumbhakarna, who also sacrificed to his whims together with his son Indrajit, of immense valor, falling to the arrows of Laxman. Valiant Rām has killed hundreds & thousands of chariots, horses, elephants & foot soldiers. He has come in the form of Rudra, the lord of destruction or Yama, the lord of death for us. Now we’re lamenting with lost hope, no end to our fear & utterly helpless. Rāvan still doesn’t understand this calamity in the form of Rām
None can protect the demon king & indeed bad omen tells about his annihilation. Brahmā gave protection to Rāvan from celestials, demons & ogres but not from human beings. This calamity is coming from humans, there is no doubt
How one can be blinded, what others can clearly see. How this happens? This is because of our attachments which acts as an terrible aggressor destroying our vision without destroying our eyes, making us enthralled to the object of our fixation & blurring the obvious. The material pleasures fixate our consciousness. The worst part is that we blinded thus, don’t even realize that our vision has been diminished & that we’re missing something
Our spiritual connection & elevation can break this infatuation & then with our vision restored, we can see perceive reality
