Angerð£
RÄvan lamented profusely & said-Indrajit why have you deserted us while still our tormentors RÄm, Laxman & Sugriva are alive? A huge rage enveloped him, born of his son’s death. RÄvan, who by his very nature was wrathful, had his anguish flared up further. His brows joined together on his forehead & he yawned with anger as if fire broke out from his mouth with smoke
Afflicted with grief & wrapped in anger, RÄvan pondered to kill SitÄ in revenge. His dreadful eyes, which were red in color by their very nature, glittered more with wrath. His form resembled enraged Rudra at the time of dissolution of world. Drops of tears fell from his eyes, as drops of oil with flames fall from blazing lamps. The sound of his teeth as he grind them, was like a noise of a large machine
Trembling with fear, demon counsellors hid themselves from his vision, as if he was Yama-God of death, which'll devour all beings. RÄvan roared-BrahmÄ, the lord of creation, was gratified by my performing stupendous austerity for 1000’s of years successfully & there was no fear for me from either celestials or demons, leave aside humans. In all my past combats, the armor gifted to me by BrahmÄ, couldn’t be mutilated, by anyone who even held thunderbolts in their hand. Who’ll dare, be it Indra himself, to attack me in battle when I’ll mount chariot wearing that armor
Let that large bow given to me along with arrows by gracious BrahmÄ, on occasion of my combat between gods & demons, be taken out today with accompaniment of band of musical instruments, to kill RÄm & Laxman battle.
That cruel RÄvan, then decided kill SitÄ first
Looking fixedly with blood-red eyes on all those demons, who were making miserable sounds, RÄvan for his part, assuming a terrible appearance, said-In order to hoodwink VÄnaras, something which had been killed before, but by conjuring trick as illusory SitÄ by Indrajit, will not be a hoax but a hard reality now. I will destroy SitÄ, who is devoted to RÄm
Thus, speaking to his counsellors, he swiftly drew his sword & proceeded
Anger is an important emotion if we use it constructively rather getting consumed by it. When something bad happens, we feel angry and lash out irrationally. This starts an ever-escalating cycle of reactions & counteractions by us & others. If we don’t try to understand the underlying cause then consequences of anger rather than anger itself will hurt us perpetually by thoughtless actions
Anger indicates that something is wrong, it is a trigger point to analyze what we have missed in the course of self or other’s actions and course correction thereon. It ideally should never incorporate harsh words &, pain leading to alienation of others
Our spiritual practices makes us calm & constructive in face of adverse situations. Realization that we are soul & not this body, will make us inner stabilized. This will empower us to understand & find solutions to underlying issues however challenging they are
